Irish Folklore: Traditional Beliefs and Superstitions
A central aspect of Irish folklore is the wealth of traditional beliefs and superstitions which have been held by Irish people over the centuries. Many of these beliefs can be traced to Celtic traditions which the Catholic church failed to erradicate completely. Looking back at my childhood in Ireland, I find it amazing that so many traditional superstitions and cures were believed in, alongside Catholic doctrines and the modern scientific world.
Jumbees of Guyana
One of the more popular and strongly held belief in jumbee is the Ole Higue. Indeed it is not uncommon to hear of a womans death in the news by those who believed her to be a ole higue. In 2007 such an incident happened, more on that story later. In Guyana this type of jumbee is know as the Ole Higue. In other parts of the Caribbean they are known as Fire Rass or Angeli.
Small City Parks
Along state highway ninety-six sits a city park that's very near downtown Franklin, Tennessee. The park has many luscious green shade trees and thirty-four acres of perfectly manicured wide open spaces. The Witch Review:
Horror movies in the year 2016 have hit a point where nothing is really that fresh anymore. It's rare for a horror movie to come along that surprises everyone with new/unique aspects, which keep movie goers glued to the scene while also providing creepy and eventful imagery. 2015 lacked in great horror films. There were a few but nothing special like 2014's Babadook. Horror films tend to go the lazy route these days, and simply throw mindless horror cliches that are predictable.
The Fairies are Afoot! - Modern Fairy Beliefs
Fairy rings are spaces where fairies are said to appear. Folklore tells of people who have come across the fairies dancing, usually at night, and usually in a circle. It may be that when people saw mysterious rings of mushrooms in a perfect circle, the only explanation must have been that the fairies had been dancing. In the Middle Ages, people believed that certain unusual phenomena in nature could be doorways or portals to other realms.
