David W. Brown is the author of the acclaimed book THE MISSION (Custom House, 2021), the unlikely story of a group of scientists who inveigled NASA to explore Europa; and THE OUTSIDE CATS (Mariner Books, 2025), about an intrepid team of Antarctic explorers who transformed the study of sea level rise.
He is a freelance writer and novelist whose nonfiction appears frequently in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Wine Enthusiast, and Scientific American. Other publishers include The Atlantic, Vox, Slate, and Foreign Policy.
Brown is an Antarctic expeditioner, an endurance runner, a former Army paratrooper, and a veteran of Afghanistan. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Brown lives in New Orleans.
