Build by design: New workflows for new ways of building
For a long time, coding was expensive. Every change would cost money and time, and you planned carefully before you committed anything to code. Today, as AI has made coding cheap, building something has never been easier. More teams are building as a way to expand their thinking. They’re building first, using it as a jumping off point to untangle a problem and test whether ideas hold up.
Design together with code layers on the canvas
Designing with code lets you see how an experience feels and behaves, from micro interactions to complete flows. But when everyone is working separately in their own coding tools, it can feel like you’re designing in isolation, making it harder to share work or compare alternatives. That’s why we introduced code layers earlier this year With code layers in Figma Design, you can explore multiple directions with code, side by side with your team. , bringing code onto the shared Figma canvas.
Introducing Specs: Markdown as a medium
Turn existing Markdown into a spec by dragging and dropping any .md file onto the canvas. Today, more and more product builders are working in Markdown, as collaborating with agents becomes more standard. It’s the de facto format for sharing context. But for all the context Markdown helps us express, it’s missing a lot of context, too. Markdown files tend to be single player on local computers, with brittle relationships to each other, and little tying them to the projects that spawned them.

Config 2026: New materials, new tools and a more expressive canvas
Design is about asking the hard questions. Right now, these questions feel bigger than ever. What’s changing? What’s possible? And what does it even mean to create? Here at Figma, we keep coming back to one simple premise: No tool should limit where an idea can go. This year’s Config announcements are all about limitless expression on the canvas.
The Future of Design Is Code and Canvas
Starting today, you can now bring work from Claude Code into Figma Now you can take workflows that start in Claude Code even further in Figma. . Just install the Figma MCP, type "Send this to Figma," and the browser's rendered state will automatically translate to fully editable Figma layers. Figma is built on the belief that design, craft, and point of view are the real differentiators.

Introducing Three New Tools For Precise Image Editing In Figma
Imagery is the foundation of visual design. Realistic images make ideas land faster and bring in-progress work to life. And being able to work with images in context reveals not only how elements fit holistically, but also how the experience comes together for the end user. Whether you’re exploring new interaction patterns, perfecting a landing page header, or generating concepts with AI, seeing and manipulating images in situ can help you make better design decisions.
The Anatomy of an Activation
The ringing of the bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was about celebrating design going public, introducing Figma to the broader community, and inviting people to feel part of something bigger. Since community is the backbone of our brand, we look for ways to share every milestone with the people who helped us get there—from Config Commons, our block-wide pop-up outside Config, to the NYSE.
How We Shaped the Visual Identity for Config 2025
For our Brand Studio team, Config is a year-round affair. In fact, 10 months before our 2025 user conference was due to land in San Francisco and London, the team kicked off a sprint to start crafting its visual identity. Each year, it’s an epic undertaking that encompasses everything from main-stage screens and spatial experiences, to attendee badges and sought-after swag.

7 Moments That Shaped Figma, as Told by Dylan Field
If you’ve followed Figma for a while, you may know that our CEO and Co-founder, Dylan Field, left Brown University for the Thiel Fellowship to start a company with his fellow Co-founder, Evan Wallace. You may not know, however, that a personal aversion to chocolate played a part in getting that fellowship.

Express Yourself with Figma Draw
Designers have long been pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for creative expression in Figma. As it becomes increasingly important to raise the ceiling and design roles become more hybrid, they’re also breaking traditional silos, moving more fluidly between pixel-perfect and expressive design.
Figma Buzz Is Where Design and Marketing Teams Co-create
The product development process doesn’t just end at production. As any marketer will tell you, shipping is often just the beginning of an orchestrated set of tactics and campaigns aimed at getting the product into users’ hands. Design and marketing teams need to collaborate on a lot of branded assets to reach their audience, but fragmented tools and siloed workflows often get in the way.

Inside the Redesigned Figma, Where Your Work Takes Center Stage | Figma Blog
UI3 clears space on the canvas for you to bring your creative vision to life. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we landed on a more streamlined and adaptable interface. We’ve made so many changes to Figma since we launched nearly a decade ago, but even amidst new functionality, features, and products, the core Figma layout has remained remarkably consistent over the years. This isn’t by accident.
Meet Figma AI: Empowering Designers with Intelligent Tools
Since we first brought AI features into FigJam, we’ve been thinking about how to harness the power of AI in Figma. As with everything we do at Figma, our main goal is to give you the tools you need to do your best work—to look beyond the hype and find real solutions to real user problems. Through that lens, we’re excited to introduce Figma AI, a collection of features designed to help you work more efficiently and creatively.
Welcome to The Prompt
AI promises to reinvigorate the way we design and build, but how we realize that potential is still an open question. By answering a series of prompts, leaders in this rapidly evolving field take stock of where we stand, what the limits are, and where we’re bound to grow. At its most basic, prompt engineering is the art of getting the right answer by knowing how to ask the right questions. It is not dissimilar to being a good interviewer—or putting together a magazine, for that matter.
Making Figma Work Better for Freelancers and Agencies
At Config today, we announced a number of new features intended to expand and accelerate work and help teams close the gap in bringing their best ideas to life. But improving Figma for everyone also means focusing on user experiences that are less visible but deeply felt—like how independent freelancers and small agencies, not just individuals within larger organizations, collaborate in Figma and how we bill them for that work.
Stack the deck with Figma Slides
According to a blog post by Visme: 45% of presenters find it difficult to design creative layouts for their presentations. 41% of presenters find it challenging to find and use great visuals. 47% of presenters take more than eight hours to design their presentations. Figma Slides is in beta and will be rolling out throughout the day on June 26 PDT. According to our research, Figma users created about 3.5 million presentations in the last year alone.

The Year to Be Great
Everyone knows that founders have been on a whipsaw over the past several years. Pivoting from growth at all costs in 2020 and 2021 to efficiency in 2022 and 2023 meant slashing budgets, shelving new projects, doing RIFs, and picking fights with your cloud provider over your bills. That’s hard work, and founders should be commended for doing it.
Localization | Figma Blog
“Figma is like a tidy bookshelf, where you can find exactly what you need, whenever you need it.”
Introducing FigJam
A lot has changed in the five or so years since Figma launched in closed beta, or as Dylan put it at the time: when design met the internet Today, after three years of silence and hard work, I finally get to announce the launch of Figma, a collaborative interface design tool. . A decades-long shift from the physical to the digital has accelerated.
Introducing Figma’s New York City hub
Katie Szeto is a product manager and member of the New York City landing team—a small group of Figmates (Figma employees) dedicated to spinning up Figma’s newest hub office. In this post, she shares a bit about why Figma is growing in New York City, how we’re thinking about the hybrid work model, and what she’s excited about in the months ahead.
Config 2022: Thinking big and acting with urgency | Figma Blog
This morning at 8am PT, we wrapped 24 hours of Config, with 100 speakers representing every continent except Antarctica, sharing 68 talks for attendees from nearly every country. (How many of you stayed up for the entire thing? No? Just me?) Config has always been about bringing the community together to talk about design. That intention hasn’t changed, but the world around us has. It’s easy to feel helpless when forces larger than ourselves are at play. But we are not helpless.
Bug Bashing Party at Figma During Quality Week
In early 2017, shortly after I joined Figma, the team kicked off its first official “Quality Week.” Everyone at the company paused their projects for a major spring cleaning of the product. Engineers and designers alike addressed a bunch of smaller, “not mission critical but annoying nonetheless” bugs, and made much-needed improvements to existing features.
What’s Happening at Config 2023?
That’s all, folks. We’re basking in the afterglow and already experiencing Config withdrawals. Good thing the party doesn’t have to stop here: There are plenty of inspiring talks to catch up on and endless hot takes and #confits to scroll on Twitter. Is it too soon to start planning for next year? After an action-packed day of hearing from the smartest folks in tech and design, running into old friends, and making new ones, we’re back for more. Here’s a running log of what we’re up to in Config-land.
Let’s create Figma’s first user conference together
Figma's first user conference will take place on February 6, 2020, in San Francisco, CA. The cost is $299 but scholarships are available. Get involved by submitting our Call for Proposals or filling out our Attendee Application by November 20th. Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Figma user base grow from a few early beta customers to now hundreds of thousands of active users worldwide. While many things have changed, one thing has not: the community continues to learn from each other.
Embracing the tension between code and design | Figma Blog
Everything we announced at Config Europe, and how we’re bringing design and code closer together in Figma. There’s a natural tension between design and code. In the world of design, the focus is deciding what to build—in the world of code, the focus is building it. Traditionally, designers and developers have occupied different worlds, requiring separate tools. In practice, they’re partners working to bring a product to life. While their approaches may differ, each offer unique advantages.

Access the past by going into Figma version history. You’ll find four new options for time travel into distinct palette years. “The 1973 vintage flashes me back to the scent of stained grey cubicle walls and the mechanical sounds of keyboard click-clickity-clicks,” said our wisest Figmate.
With Figma’s new SVG Exports, less = more
Here’s one big lesson we’ve learned since launching collaborative design tool Figma: when it comes to SVG Export, less is more. For a long time, we stuck as much information as possible into our SVG files, hoping it would help other tools render and import designs accurately. Fueled by feedback from our community, we’ve had a change of heart and have been gradually tweaking the Export format over the past few months.
Introducing: Figma’s Platform
Today, we’re excited to launch the Figma Platform, a way to improve design workflows by connecting Figma to other tools, scripts and even web apps. We’re starting off with a new concept for the design space: A web API. It’s crazy that a web API is groundbreaking in 2018, but to our knowledge, no one has ever created one for a professional design tool before. The reason?
Introducing Smart Selection
As a designer a large part of our work is about exploring constraints and possibilities, which is often a very iterative process. We try this, we try that, we document our findings, and we revisit what we did yesterday. Most of this work involves repetitive tasks, like “What if the spacing around the icons was a little bit tighter?” or “Would it help to move these things around?” This tedious work can take up a huge amount of time.
Bridging design and code with Variants
We believe that a design tool should embrace concepts from both design and code Everything we announced at Config Europe, and how we’re bringing design and code closer together in Figma. . But every product team will balance these competing considerations differently. While development is about finalizing and scaling a solution through rigor and reusability, design needs uninhibited freedom to iterate on the most promising ideas.
Bridge design and development with the new Zeplin integration | Figma Blog
If you’re a fan of Zeplin’s philosophy on collaboration and developer handoff, your design workflow just got a boost. Today, we’re introducing a redesigned Zeplin integration with Figma. Check out the new plugin here and read on for more details. For those not yet familiar, Zeplin delivers more advanced hand-off features and can serve as a bridge between design and development. We launched the first version of the Zeplin integration even before Figma officially launched.
Full-scale expression with Grilli Type
Type can suffer from scaling problems: When you increase the size of a font, say, from a business card to a billboard (or even from a mobile device to a desktop), you’re also changing the spatial perception between each letter. Lines of copy that you might easily read in a given form factor will start to deform and become illegible in another.
Q&A with Robyn Kanner
At Config 2021, Figma’s virtual design conference, Robyn Kanner closed out day one by detailing her time as Creative Director of the Biden-Harris design team. During the 2020 U.S. presidential election, the team designed everything from JoeBiden.com to the campaign plane—all in one Figma file. In our new series, we’re highlighting design leaders beyond their work. To start, we asked Robyn 25 quick questions. Watch her keynote below, then read on for her answers. 1.
A step forward in our accessibility efforts
Update Tuesday, August 9th: The prototype screen reader feature mentioned is now in open beta for everyone to try! For more information on the feature, head to our Help Center. Figma’s vision is to make design accessible to all, and while today more than two-thirds of our community identifies as something other than “designer,” we know making design truly accessible means more than simply opening it up to more people.
Talk it out in Figma and FigJam
Since day one, Figma has opened the doors for teammates to work in the same file together. But working together sometimes requires more than just being in the same digital space. Like everyone, we’ve encountered our fair share of challenges when it comes to remote collaboration. We experienced the pain of switching between tools to ask that quick question or clarify one key point. So, we set out to solve those challenges, while bringing back the serendipity of in-person interactions.
