Amber weather warning in force for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
AN AMBER heat health alert is in force for the south west. The warning, issued by the UK Health Security Agency, came into effect from 12pm on Tuesday, August 11 and runs until 9pm on Friday, August 14. It comes as hot weather sweeps across the UK with temperatures set to reach 31C across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on Thursday. The UKHSA says “significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures”.
Paddling pool to close until further notice
A PADDLING pool will close until further notice 'due to pressure on water supplies'. Fordingbridge Paddling Pool will close from this evening, Tuesday, August 11, with no set date for reopening, as part of efforts to conserve water during the ongoing period of hot weather.
Bournemouth musician bids farewell with final album before break
BOURNEMOUTH-BASED solo artist Julian Barry has released what he says will be his final studio album before taking a break from music. The album, titled The Last Chapter, quickly reached more than 1,000 streams just hours after its release, signalling a strong response from fans. Mr Barry, who has described the project as a "complete reflection" of his current artistic identity, said: "This album is a complete reflection of where I am right now as an artist.
Gardeners encouraged to enter club's late summer show
Gardeners and growers are being encouraged to showcase their green-fingered skills at an upcoming horticultural event. The Wimborne Gardening Club Late Summer Show takes place on Saturday, September 5, at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne, and will run from 12pm to 4pm. Entries close on Wednesday, September 2.
People invited to walk or cycle to support historic churches
PEOPLE are being invited to take part in a sponsored walk or cycle to support the Dorset Historic Churches Trust. The annual Ride and Stride fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 12, starting at 10am, with riders and walkers from Wimborne Minster raising money through sponsorship.
Ducks to take to the river for 26th annual fundraising race
The 26th Annual Duck Race, staged in aid of Wimborne in Bloom, will take place on Saturday, August 29, with plastic ducks set to take to the River Allen. 'Ducks' will be launched at 3pm from the bottom of Mill Lane, near Riverside Mews Café, and will cross the finish line beside the garden at the back of the Rising Sun in East Street. Ducks can be purchased for £1 each outside Waitrose on August 27 and 29, and at the Co-op store in Crown Mead on August 22, 27, 28, and race day itself.
Multiple agencies search for 'high-risk' missing person at Rockley Point
A five-hour multi-agency search operation was launched for a missing person at Rockley Point in Poole. HM Coastguard was called to the scene at 2.15am on Tuesday, August 4, to support Dorset Police in the search for a 'high-risk' missing person. Multiple coastguard rescue teams from Southbourne, Swanage, and Kimmeridge were deployed to assist.

Epic comedy Oh Zeus! with 63 lightning-fast costume changes heads to Poole
A comedy show bursting with fast-paced fun and mythology is heading to Poole. Physical comedy company Le Navet Bete will perform Oh Zeus! at Lighthouse Poole on Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, with both shows starting at 7.45pm. The performance is a “riotous, all-out hilarious ride through the world of Greek mythology”. When the marriage of Zeus' daughter Hebe to a mortal threatens the stability of Olympus, the king of gods devises a plan to sabotage the wedding.
Golf club raises more than £6,000 for charity
A golf club has raised more than £6,000 for Blind Veterans UK by holding a charity day. Sturminster Marshall Golf Club near Poole hosted the fundraiser on July 5 to support vision-impaired ex-service personnel, including club member Tony Haskey. The event was organised by Tony's wife, Kosy, who planned the day alongside Tony's support worker, Sarah Barnes from Blind Veterans UK.

Councillor honoured for 50 years of public service
A COUNCILLOR who began his public service in the 1970s has been honoured for his decades of dedication. Councillor David Budd has served on Wareham Town Council for 50 years and was formally recognised for his “long-standing service” at a ceremony during a full council meeting on June 23. Cllr Budd first joined the council on June 17, 1976. He has since served twice as mayor between 1990 and 1992, chaired numerous committees, and was named honoured townsman of Wareham in 2013.
Swim school expands in Dorset with fourth location
A swim school is expanding in Dorset with the launch of a new exclusive pool. Swim with Style Dorset's latest site in Talbot Woods brings its total to four locations, adding to existing venues in Branksome, Colehill, and Moordown. Nicole Sims, the school's franchisee and an instructor with over 14 years of experience, said: "Living in Dorset means we're surrounded by beautiful beaches, harbours, rivers and open water.

Yellow heat health alert issued for Dorset as hot weather continues
A YELLOW heat health alert has been issued for the south west as the hot weather continues. The warning comes into force from 9am on Tuesday, July 14 and runs until 9pm on Friday, July 17. Issued by the UKHSA, the warning says “significant impacts are possible across health and social care services due to the high temperatures”. These include a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. There may also be impacts on younger age groups, the UKHAS said.

A MISSING teenager from Poole has been found, police have said. Jamie, aged 17, was last seen in Ashley Road at around 2.35pm on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Providing an update, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Following searches by officers, he has now been located. “We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal.”

AN INCLUSIVE watersport session is taking place near Ringwood this weekend. Ellingham Inclusive Water Ski and Wakeboard (EIWW), a charity near Ringwood, is offering adaptive waterskiing, wakeboarding and ringo rides for people with disabilities, additional needs, or long-term health conditions. Sessions will take place on Saturday, July 11, Thursday, July 16, Saturday, August 1, Thursday, August 13, Saturday, September 5 and Thursday, September 17.

Swanage Carnival unveils theme bringing more than 100 events to town
Swanage is set for eight days of entertainment as this summer's carnival brings a fresh twist to the Dorset coast. Running from July 25 to August 1, the 2026 Swanage Carnival will take on a Wild West theme under the title A Wacky Western in Carnival Canyon. More than 100 events will take place throughout the week, promising “eight action-packed days featuring more than 100 events, spectacular displays, and unforgettable attractions” for residents and visitors alike.

Crowds raised nearly £1,500 for lifeboat as crew launched twice to emergencies
Volunteer lifesavers were called away from a fundraising concert to respond to emergencies at sea. The Mudeford RNLI crew was tasked twice on Saturday, June 27, during a sea shanty event featuring the Wareham Whalers outside the Haven House Inn, held to raise funds for the lifeboat station. Crowds had gathered to enjoy the concert when, at 7.17pm, the crew were requested to launch to reports of a father and son in difficulty on inflatables off Boscombe beach.

BOURNEMOUTH MP Tom Hayes has reiterated calls for the closure of asylum hotels, asking if Bournemouth is being prioritised. Support dog helps woman find new sense of independence
A support dog has given one woman a new sense of independence and confidence. Louise Froment, 37, from Bournemouth, lives with constant pain caused by Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a genetic connective tissue disorder she was diagnosed with at 18. Louise said: "What Oscar can do now makes my life so much easier." Oscar, her chocolate Labrador, was trained by the national charity Support Dogs to assist with daily tasks.
