"Up-cycling: from marketing claims to regulatory compliance
When you see the title of this article, I can see you rolling your eyes… and in your head, a little voice whispering to you: “Again! I’m still hearing about Up-cycling!” Yes, of course. Last year’s hot topic, up-cycling will be more than a trend for the next few years in the cosmetic field. Ecodesign and extraction of cosmetic ingredients
According to the French ADEME (Ecological Transition Agency), eco-responsibility refers to all the daily actions implemented by a group to limit its impact on the environment. “Initially considered as a trend or a marketing argument, eco-responsibility has gone from a ‘Nice-to-Have’ to a ‘Must-Have’. Sustainability: Mintel's 2021 barometer.
Mintel conducted a study to track consumer behaviors, buying preferences and attitudes towards sustainability. The objective is for brands to better identify the expectations of their targets and to make the best decisions regarding the theme of eco-responsibility. A small majority of people around the world believe that by acting now, it is still possible to change the fate of the planet (e.g., 64% in Brazil, 53% in France, 51% in India, 50% in the United States).
Organic and natural cosmetics: what do consumers think today?

In France, it represents 24%”, explains Natrue.
Green Impact Index: Pierre Fabre's socio-environmental measurement tool
We know the Nutriscore, a rating system that allows to see at a glance if a foodstuff is good for health or not. The Pierre Fabre group has taken the same concept and adapted it to the cosmetics sector. The Green Impact Index is a tool for the general public to measure, improve and indicate by A, B, C or D the environmental and societal impact of cosmetic products. For several years, customers have been asking manufacturers to communicate more transparently on the entire value chain.

Bulk: a new distribution method that will soon be essential
It allows to limit packaging and waste, is in line with the environmental regulations being developed, and is even becoming an “encouraged commercial practice”… Bulk has become more than trendy and will soon be almost mandatory. The cosmetics industry must adopt it more widely than it does today… which is not without some adaptations and difficulties to overcome.
Beauty Tech: it might be time to jump in?
Since the beginning of the year, Business France has added a string to its bow and supports French companies specialized in beauty tech to conquer new markets.
