Why we reject the Treaty change proposal
On 22 November 2023 in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a report proposing a series of Treaty changes that constitute a revolutionary and radical reform plan aimed at irreversibly transforming the EU from a community of sovereign nation-states into a dystopian superstate run by a hegemonic oligarchy, increasing already existing in the EU a high democratic deficit. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, Shadow-Rapporteur for the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.
Is treaty change necessary to enlarge the EU?
EU enlargement cannot be a hostage of the false pretext of imposing qualified majority voting. The peoples of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia as well as the six Western Balkan countries, want and deserve the EU membership. EU telecom watchdog plan dead on arrival
A European Commission proposal to upgrade a Riga-based forum of national telecommunications watchdogs into a more powerful EU agency lacks the required support in the European Parliament and member states, sources tell EUobserver. “A majority of member states is reluctant to give more powers to Berec,” said a source close to the Council, the EU institution where representatives from the governments of member states meet. MEPs agree on future of emissions trading system
The European Parliament raised the bar on the EU's climate change commitments, after its environment committee on Thursday (15 December) broadly backed a more ambitious reform of the Emissions Trading System (ETS). The proposal was adopted with 53 votes in favour, three against, and seven abstentions, and followed extensive negotiations between political groups over compromise amendments.
