I'd Like To See The Evidence That Changed Their Mind In my original post, I questioned it, not because the burn would billow black smoke (the double bond nearly guarantees incomplete combustion in open air) but because of the sudden flattening. I still am not envisioning either a rapid enough rise (absent a detonation) nor a heat effect that would cause the sudden cooling across the entire diameter.
