The all-girl skate crew that adopted Jaden Smith

Unless you’re a girl who skates, you’ve probably never been ‘credit-carded’. It’s something that happens when you try to land a jump and it backfires – not in the figurative sense – rocketing your board perpendicularly into your vaginal region. Blood gush. Humiliation. Hospital. Stitches.
Hillier Bartley: pair of aces

Hayett McCarthy on her circular logic
You can buy a copy of our latest issue here. Taken from the spring/summer issue of Dazed: In a previous life, Hayett McCarthy would have been “an almond, on a tree, chilling in the south of France”. The Lyon-born model is now based in NYC having just finished her first full fashion-week circuit – but is determined not to become a “phoney”.
Anjelica Huston on a lifetime of storytelling
Taken from the winter 2015 issue of Dazed: Anjelica Huston could give lessons in the art of name-dropping. Rule number one: make sure the names are worth dropping. The characters that populate Huston’s stories certainly are. “Dick Avedon, Diana Vreeland, Andy Warhol, Candy Darling, Holly Woodlawn, Jackie Curtis,” she begins, recalling friends from the impossibly starry production that was disco-era New York. “Gerard Malanga, Viva, Giorgio di Sant’ Angelo, Perry Ellis and Ara Gallant, Joe McDonald...
Isabel Alsina-Reynolds talks astronauts, muses and art
Isabel Alsina-Reynolds is, by turns, a painter, spoken word artist, puppeteer and chameleonic model who’s signed to agency Nevs and has walked the runway at London Fashion Week. Now, the ‘urban storyteller’ is one of MCM’s four Modern Creative Muses – the image series below showcases the luxury German label’s shiny Cyber Studs range of accessories. MCM sprung up in Munich in the 70s and cites the city’s rebellious subcultural mindset at that time as an ever-present influence on its designs.
Illustrator King Owusu on London, diversity, and creativity
Luxury accessories label MCM emerged in 1976 on the vibrant streets of Munich. Among the subcultural spirit of the punks and rockers that filled the city, the brand established itself with an imitable monogram signature that has evolved alongside its contemporary designs.
Le Kilt: the ethical Brit label channeling female rebellion
You can buy a copy of our latest issue here. Taken from the spring 2017 issue of Dazed: "Subculture is about people taking certain garments and putting them into their own uniform, in little groups of people. It’s about being true to what you like.” So says Samantha McCoach, who is injecting a no-holds-barred spirit into her fast-rising label Le Kilt, drawing as much inspiration from her Scottish roots as she does the off-kilter femininity of her punk heroines.
How Charlie Heaton became television’s favourite outsider
You can buy a copy of our latest issue here. Taken from the winter 2016 issue of Dazed: Charlie Heaton is probably too nice to be famous. Nestled in the back room of his local Japanese-Tiki cafe over the course of a Sunday afternoon, he is greeted like an old friend by total strangers, asked for a selfie by giggling girls, and approached by a man mumbling something about doing a shoot ‘like Patrick Swayze in Red Dawn’. He indulges them all with faint astonishment, and a smile.
Rejjie Snow on rising to the top of the class
They say nice guys finish last, but you try telling that to rap world ingenue Rejjie Snow . The Dublin-born musician with razor-sharp flow and a way with the written word first crash-landed into the public consciousness with a louder bang than most: when his debut mixtape Rejovich knocked Kanye West ’s mammoth Yeezus off the top of the iTunes hip hop chart. Flipping music world expectations without missing a beat, Snow subsequently took a hiatus to perfect his rap game.
Mae Lapres is the model queen coming for your crown
Mae Lapres is the runway queen bee whose off-kilter style and empowered attitude says, ‘I’m coming for the crown.’ A consummate Parisian, you might recognise her from fashion week catwalks or multiple campaigns – but when she’s not playing at being the muse, she prefers to take charge of her own style, collecting vintage threads and customising them. “I think I’ve been through all styles!” she exclaims.

"Fashion Rules are Stupid": Iris Apfel Talks Mixing it Up
Iris ApfelPhotography by Fumi Nagasaka, Styling by Elizabeth Fraser-Bell The nonagenarian style icon shares her thoughts on individuality and the story behind her signature specs October 17, 2016 “I’ve always been fascinated by spectacles. As a child, I always used to collect things, and I used to go to flea markets and wander around. Every time I saw an interesting pair of spectacles I bought them and threw them in a box. And periodically I’d take them out and try them on.
Sasha Lane’s star is born
“I had a meeting with someone and for the first 40 minutes I wanted to punch him in the face,” says Sasha Lane, stirring her latte. Recently, the budding actress experienced her first bad setup with a Hollywood producer. “He did the whole power shark thing. You know? He put his legs up on the table and I was very much like, ‘Yeah, we get it. It’s your office, dude.’” She rolls her eyes and exhales, steam practically shooting from her ears.
Meet the woman transforming male modelling
It’s a stifling hot day in June, and the roof of a private Catholic high school in Paris’s 16th arrondissement has just become the unlikely setting for one of the menswear season’s most talked-about moments – the first Balenciaga men’s show under creative director Demna Gvasalia.
Trans Model Stav Strashko On Why She’d Rather Live Without Definitions
At 23 years old, Stav Strashko has all the trappings of a typical burgeoning fashion model. The Kate Moss cheekbones, the innate cool factor, the lithe 5-foot-11 frame, the flowing hair, and the kind of jet-set lifestyle that begets residences in both Italy and Israel. Then, of course, there’s the starring role as the hot blond babe in this season’s Diesel commercial (cast alongside Joe Jonas, no less).
Beth Ditto: breaking fashion’s barriers
Taken from the winter 2015 issue of Dazed: “Did you see? Someone turned me into Ursula from The Little Mermaid!” screams Beth Ditto. She’s describing an Instagram photo made by a fan who turns runway models into cartoon characters. While most would be offended by the comparison to the purple-hued sea witch, Ditto is ecstatic. “She’s an i-c-o-n!” Just a few months ago, the outspoken musician made a surprise appearance at Marc Jacobs’ SS16 show.

The film, created for The Guardian, centres on Ali – a Pakistani asylum-seeker arduously prepping for his drag debut. Also featured is Asifa Lahore, Britain’s first out gay Muslim drag queen.
