Arizona led the drive to give women the right to vote. 100 years later, it's paying off
Opinion: A century ago, Arizona led the nation in women's rights. As we begin 2020, the state's women are poised to lead great reforms once again. Editor's note: As 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that opened the door for eventually all American women to vote, we invited Eileen Klein, a leading light for years in Arizona government, to write about the accomplishments of Arizona women and the challenges ahead.

Viewpoints: What you need to know about Arizona Teachers' Academy
Viewpoints: The presidents of three public universities explain how they plan to implement the Arizona Teachers Academy, which aims to help solve the state's teacher shortage. Ask any number of successful people how they managed to achieve so much. Inevitably, they’ll point to people in their lives who made a difference. In many cases, that person was a teacher. What if those teachers hadn’t come into their lives?

Viewpoints: College tuition is pricey - and Arizona is too stingy
Arizona has some of the largest and most recognized universities and community colleges in the nation, and together, they fulfill a critical role in preparing our state’s future workforce. Yet of the $2.4 billion spent on financial aid, nearly all is spent at the four-year college level. And less than one-half of 1 percent of that cash comes from state appropriations. The remainder is generated from within the institutions.

Opinion: Governor’s plan is good for economy - Inside Tucson Business: News
In fiscal 2015, Arizona’s three public universities were responsible for an estimated 102,000 jobs and $11.1 billion in total economic impact. The economic oomph generated by our public universities is equivalent to hosting a Super Bowl in our state approximately every three weeks for a year.
Regents: Why we're behind Ducey's university funding plan
Quality education increasingly is recognized as providing expanded opportunities and improved economics for graduates. While Arizona is blessed with three public universities that are among the nation’s finest, a new plan is necessary to enable these institutions to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our students, the challenges of a new economy and the expectations of the citizens of Arizona.
Liberty is the ultimate social justice
Hats off to Rep. Paul Boyer, chair of the House Committee on Education, for his bold move to announce that he will not hear HB 2120 in his committee. Among other things, the bill would have banned the teaching of "social justice," required the instruction of "accurate" history and allowed the attorney general to investigate alleged classroom violations. No doubt, some will not agree with various offerings and activities of a modern university education.
Budget cuts force universities to go a new way
Eileen Klein: What Arizona's universities really need is fewer regulations and a new financing model. I commend Gov. Doug Ducey's call for a "confident, strong and rising" Arizona. The governor has outlined key reforms that can have positive outcomes and meaningful impacts for our state. His vision provides a real chance for building economic momentum through fiscal responsibility, economic development, regulation reform and strengthening our K-12 system.
