What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paid job was reporting on city events on the weekends at a Texas newspaper.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have as a challenge.
How is social media changing news?
Social media should not be a whimsical notion. As much care and precision should be posted as in your articles when it comes to speaking up.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Carrie Bradshaw, but for reasons that are not so obvious.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist is to be a human being who passionately seeks out words that create a better existence for all on this planet.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
The best was #reporterlife since it tells our story on a global scale that is fascinating to absorb.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like many freelancers have a million things going on at once. An email is the best way to look over materials while on the go.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use Word and the internet.
What's your favorite social network?
I favor Instagram since it paints a picture using words as a paintbrush.
Who do you wish followed you?
It would be my parents if they ever did social media.
Why did you become a journalist?
Words are magical.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I certainly did work for the newspaper. I was there to report on hot happenings on campus.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I was happy to get an amazing quote from Jane Fonda on her current political views.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
My best advice is always be prepared. Research is the key to success.
When's the best time to pitch you?
The best time to pitch is 1130 am to 4:30 pm. If you send after 5 pm I most likely headed out to cover a night event.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
The best pitch was a fundraiser that had celebrities raising funds for a great children's charity.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
The worst pitch was a CBD line backed by a famous skateboarder for my entertainment writing.
What's your favorite drink?
A sparkling water with a twist of lemon always hits the spot.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
You will find me walking Central Park in all type of weather. Fresh air is a fresh start when you are a constant thinker.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I don't have favorites. Anything that teaches me is on my list.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we like to get post-releases for events you didn't pitch prior to the activation.
