Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

An intern for a British publication covering the film industry. What a fantastic learning experience it was for me.

How is social media changing news?

It has become one of the top sources that people use for their news and, if used properly, where journalists can get their breaking news.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Will McAvoy mixed with some Sloan Sabbith. I hope mixing is allowed.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer a pitch by email.

What's your favorite social network?

Instagram and Facebook I use the most. I'm still in a love-hate relationship with Twitter, but I'm managing to overcome the hate. Slowly.

Why did you become a journalist?

It is my passion. I wake up thinking about the news. I seek the truth and want to share what I find with the world.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, unfortunately my high school did not have a newspaper. I was the editor of my middle school yearbook. Does that count for anything?

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Right now I am working on the material I was able to acquire on my own about Syrian refugees (women and children). That is coming soon.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Don't give up. Find your niche and stick to it. Be open to change and always stay up-to-date.

When's the best time to pitch you?

I can be best reached to set up a time to pitch by email. Anytime is a good time for a pitch.
