Neal Francis | Morning Becomes Eclectic
What do Dr. John, Leon Russell and boogie woogie piano have in common? Neal Francis is the answer. The Chicago-based musician channels 60s and 70s soul and funk music in his latest album Changes.
Pixies | Morning Becomes Eclectic
Alt-rock pioneers Pixies released their seventh album Beneath the Eyrie last September. They performed a special set of new tracks and old gems and spoke with KCRW's Eric J. Lawrence about the new album and their connection to Los Angeles. Photos by Elli Lauren.
Caamp | Morning Becomes Eclectic
Started by boyhood friends Evan Westfall and Taylor Meier in Athens, Ohio, Caamp's third album By and By is a declaration of their shared love of home. The band performed three of their new songs for us, including the album title track "By and By." Photos by Elli Lauren.
Glen Hansard | Morning Becomes Eclectic
Earlier this month Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard (of The Frames / The Swell Season) performed a handful of songs from his latest album This Wild Willing for KCRW. He then sat down with Anne Litt to talk about his writing process and his travels (by 20 foot wooden boat) along the Spanish coast.
KCRW Presents: Back to school shows
Summer is ending, school is in session, but we’re still rockin’. Newly added to our concert list is soft-groovin’ Clairo, who announced her US tour dates after releasing her debut album Immunity. Her single “Bags,” co-produced by Rostam, has been blasting on our airwaves and we can’t wait to see her at the Wiltern on Tuesday, October 15.
Music For Your Weekend Ty Segall takeover edition
On the toes of a 10-week residency at the Teragram Ballroom and the release of his brand new album, First Taste, Psych/Garage Rock virtuoso Ty Segall came by the KCRW Studio for his 5th MBE Session! 5 sessions in almost as many years and something like 15 albums, not including albums from other bands he plays with and/or is a part of, Ty Segall is like a cosmic beam of pure rock-n-roll energy.
Kevin Morby blesses KCRW with 'Oh My God'
Kevin Morby’s ambitions rise up to the heavens on his new album Oh My God. His 5th studio release and boldest statement to date finds him flirting with religion (and questioning it), layered instrumentation, and gospel-tinged melody. With a 7-piece band in tow for his Morning Becomes Eclectic session - he debuted this new configuration and they filled the air with harmonies, woodwind undertones, and warm keys. Morby led the way with his thoughtful musings on God confidently front and center.
Jenny Lewis and the live magic of Village Studios
Jenny Lewis looked around Room D of the storied Village Recording Studios taking it all in, as she and Jason Bentley reminisced on its rock & roll lore. Tusk by Fleetwood Mac was recorded right in that same room, as was “Angie” by the Rolling Stones… and on and on. For Jenny Lewis to record a live session behind her fourth solo album On the Line here made great sense.
