What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job was with The Online Citizen as an intern, where I covered the small political parties in the city.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
No, but I want to own one!
How is social media changing news?
It's making news more accessible, but that democratisation has meant that news standards are more important than ever.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It is acting on your human curiosity to find out what's going on in the world, and to find the stories that are important.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A press release would work best.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Read widely, across the political spectrum and read long-form. Read often.
When's the best time to pitch you?
12-3pm, but 4-5pm works too.
What's your favorite drink?
Non-alcoholic? I'd think Jasmine.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Semafor, Washington Post. For Singapore news, I look at Jom and Kirsten Han's newsletter, We The Citizens.
