The Heart Keeps Pumping
7/10 Zach Bryan has returned. Just nine months after his number one album, With Heaven on Top, Bryan is back with his EP, Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs. Along with eight new tracks, the country star has dropped other exciting nuggets for fans, including a memoir and a two-hour sit-down interview with Matthew McConaughey, his first in years. Bryan is showing a new side of himself, one that is sober, settled, and ready to reflect. The record opens with “Lodi When,” a stellar start.
Despite Delays, Graduation Remains on Coach Parks Field
The reconstruction of the bleachers on Coach Parks Field experienced a series of delays. What began as a long-awaited improvement to M-A’s athletic facilities developed into student rumors, speculating that seniors’ graduation could be moved. However, according to Principal Losekoot, graduation will continue as planned. For more than 10 years, Athletic Director Paul Snow has advocated for the renovation and construction of new bleachers on Coach Parks Field, largely due to safety reasons.
UC STEM Faculty Considers Making SAT Mandatory
The University of California (UC) system is exploring a possible return to mandatory standardized testing, after being test-blind since the fall of 2021. These considerations come after more than 3,000 UC faculty members signed a petition for UC to review their testing policies over concerns about students’ academic abilities.
Opinion: Love on the Spectrum is good TV. Is that the problem?
Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum has been praised for something reality television rarely achieves: sincerity. Instead of dramatic eliminations, manipulative rivalries, or manufactured chaos, the Emmy-winning dating show follows autistic adults as they navigate relationships, awkward first dates, and the universal desire for love and connection in a wholly genuine way.
Softball Gets Swept by Burlingame
The softball team fell to the Burlingame Panthers 8-0 for the division title on Tuesday afternoon. Burlingame started off hot, quickly filling the bases with a series of singles and a double. The Panthers took advantage of their early setup by scoring with a fly ball to left field, leaving the Bears trailing 1-0. The next batter up for Burlingame smashed a ground ball that the Bears struggled to retrieve, allowing the Panthers to increase their lead to 3-0.
History of C├ęsar Chavez Monuments in the Bay Area
On March 18, The New York Times published a year-long investigative report, alleging civil rights activist and labor leader César Chavez sexually assaulted multiple girls and women, including fellow activist and co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association, Dolores Huerta. Chavez's name is found all around the world. It's in the names of schools, murals, and other public monuments and is especially prominent in the Bay Area because of Chavez's close ties to the area.
Track and Field Team Races to the Podium on Senior Night
The track and field team hosted senior night and the second PAL track meet against Aragon and Mills on Tuesday in 90-degree weather. The Bears performed remarkably, securing numerous personal records and first-place finishes on the leaderboard. In both the boys and girls 1600M race, M-A owned the leaderboard. For the boys, junior Calvin Blanford finished with a time of 4:35.86 and Benjamin Salceda with a time of 4:36.99, obtaining first and second place, each with a new impressive personal record.
Why Are Seagulls Taking Over the G-Wing?
As students cross the blacktop in the G-Wing, whether to enjoy lunch or hurry to class, they are forced to shuffle past the hungry seagulls. "I've noticed them during lunch. They always fly over us and try and steal food from our table," freshman Kaden Gross said. The birds have been congregating on M-A's campus for decades, but there has been a notable increase in their number and aggressiveness just this year.
Boys Soccer Triumphs over Sequoia in Thrilling Victory
The boys soccer team defeated the Sequoia Ravens 2-0 on Friday night. M-A started the game with strong defense from junior defenders Finn Doherty, Vincent Alastalo, and Elliot Keighery, who were quick to block multiple shots sent near the goal. Soon after, senior defender and captain Nolan Kanevsky hit a quick header that moved the ball downfield, and a defensive block moments later interfered with a Ravens pass to help keep Sequoia off the scoreboard.
M-A Dance Team Takes the Stage On Their Biggest Night
The Dance Team's long-awaited annual dance show premiered on Wednesday in the Performing Arts Center. Families lined up by the door, cradling bouquets with their tickets in hand, eager to enter the show. As the doors opened, audience members spilled into their seats. The show began as the lights shut off and the stage illuminated with purple light. In the center, the dancers stood head down, wearing their traditional maroon and gold dance uniforms.
Hop To It-This Sequel Delivers
8/10 The first Zootopia was an iconic part of the 2010s. The characters were well-rounded and balanced each other out, and they were aided by the phenomenal music and creative world. Zootopia 2 is just as good. Both the sequel and its original take place in Zootopia, a city of animals built on the cliché that anyone can be and do anything.
Style Watch: Fall to Winter
As the crisp air comes in, Bears are retiring their warm-weather outfits and leaning into more layers, coats, sweatpants, leggings, and an array of autumn tones. From bright colors to warm fall colors, the campus wardrobe is shifting as quickly as the changing leaves this season. Sophomores Vanessa Polly, Grace Lobdell, and Anna Brown started the first couple days of fall with an assortment of playful colored stripes and a classic denim jean look.
Seniors' Bucket Lists - M-A Chronicle
"My goal is just to find a place that I'm happy, fulfilled, and make friendships wherever I am next," senior Kylie Cox said. The Class of 2026 has a wide range of goals they want to achieve before they continue to new experiences that await them after graduation. With just over seven months remaining in their high school careers, there are many landmark events that lie ahead for seniors.
Administration Overwhelmed by Parking Pass Demand
*This story includes pseudonyms to protect the confidentiality of students. "All the spots were gone before I could even apply," junior Addison Moeller said. This year, many students struggled to get parking passes, causing frustration and worries throughout campus. M-A has 240 parking spots in the Main Lot and 45 in the T-lot. Even after deciding to open up the Athletic Lot, with approximately 1,000 upperclassmen, many students were left without a parking pass-and with plenty of annoyance.
Dawg Day Brings Grills, Games, and Good Vibes
Leadership hosted their third annual Dawg Day with an endless supply of hot dogs and cornhole on Thursday. Students, dressed in flip-flops and "barbecue dad" looks, gathered in the G-Wing to participate in a variety of dog-related games and enjoy delicious barbecue. A key part to the theme of the day is to show your "dogs" or feet, whether that's through flip flops or sandals. "This is my day to meet and greet with everyone else's toes," freshman Lela Eaton said.
