On Sept. 21 the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued an updated advisory highlighting the possible sanctions risks companies face associated with ransomware payments in connection with malicious cyber-enabled activities. OFAC also designated SUEX, a virtual currency exchange, as a Specially Designated National and Blocked Person (SDN) under its cyber-related sanctions program.
