I'm a science writer with 20 years of published experience. I attended journalism school at the UW Madison, Wisconsin, with a specialization in scientific content. I simultaneously took pre-med courses to round my science education and conducted genetic research as an intern to appreciate and understand the process behind what I write about.
At university, I also took the opportunity to study abroad three times, focusing on environmental diversity and research in Costa Rica, international development in Kenya, and art and culture in Italy.
I have been published in magazines and newspapers, and I wrote radio scripts in the early 2000s for Earthwatch Radio, through the Sea Grant institute, and I have written in larger part for organizations: WebMD, New York City; Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing, Doha, Qatar; Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar; Northwestern University in Qatar, and now Wingtra AG, Zurich, Switzerland.
I've been around, and my writing has spanned all scientific disciplines, from optics to LNG to metabolomics and now drone tech.
I love writing. I have freelanced for lifestyle magazine and also write casually about health and wellness, current events, expat life, cinema. I'll post published pieces here as I can ... only a few of my recent ones are up so far.
Note: Much of my work for the past ten years is for organizations that don't publish bylines. Early 2000s work is under my maiden name Laughnan, or my first married name Alp. Swiss laws around hyphenation were prohibitive, so I just took another name change to Loosli when I married here.
