Earthwatch Radio writing environmental interview scripts as an intern.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, when I was a child.

How is social media changing news?

Warranted authorship is becoming less celebrated than popularity. So it's even more vital to have both.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To get out of the way and document/clarify what is happening for people who can't be there to discuss and/or experience it.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Wordpress, Google Suite, Mangools SEO tools, Hubspot, Clickup, Skype, Zoom, most social media apps.

What's your favorite social network?

Instagram, now that I have a strict time limit of 20 minutes and have muted a lot of accounts.

Who do you wish followed you?

Ricky Gervais and his wife Jane.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to write and share insight, and I could see that the work world would become more dynamic and that I could work from anywhere.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

A piece for Earth Island Journal documenting the struggle of a Kenyan to preserve land rights. It generated attention that helped the case.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime.

What's your favorite drink?

Well-brewed Genmaicha tea.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Somewhere where I can move freely, look in the distance and / or exercise.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That the writers have less of an agenda because it's science or tech. Everyone has an agenda. Read critically.
