What's your favorite social network?
TikTok, lol. I went in thinking it was just dancing teens and weird filters, and now it’s my go-to for everything from recipe ideas to niche history facts to oddly specific mom humor. The algorithm knows me better than I know myself, which is mildly terrifying but also kind of impressive.
Why did you become a journalist?
I’ve always been drawn to the why behind the story. Growing up in a small town, music and journalism were my portals to the outside world. They showed me places I couldn’t go and lives I hadn’t seen up close. That sense of discovery shaped how I see storytelling. Whether it’s music, technology, or human behavior, I’ve always wanted to understand what drives people and systems and then share that understanding with others. Journalism offered a way to connect dots, translate complexity, and create clarity. Today, I’m still chasing that same spark, pulling back the curtain and offering others a window into ideas, industries, and experiences they might not otherwise encounter.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stay curious and stay human. The best stories don’t always come from the loudest places. They come from paying close attention, asking thoughtful questions, and caring enough to listen. Learn how to adapt your voice without losing it, and don’t be afraid to dive into topics that feel a little out of your depth. That’s usually where the good stuff lives. Also, write like a real person. Clarity beats jargon every time.
What's your favorite drink?
we’re at brunch, expect me to have a full beverage lineup: a mimosa (light on the OJ), a sparkling water or soda, and a coffee. I’m not a big drinker, but if I’m on a beach, I’ll go for a mojito or margarita. And if we’re at a dive bar or a music venue? It’s a single malt scotch on the rocks, no question.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the garden, with dirt under my nails and peonies blooming nearby. I love growing things—plants, ideas, and kids included. Life outside the screen usually means time with my three energetic children at soccer games, climbing gyms, hiking trails, or off on a spontaneous road trip. At home, I’m outnumbered by a small army of rescued dogs and cats, plus the occasional foster. Yes, I know I have a problem. And when I’m not wrangling plants, pets, or people, you’ll probably find me at a show. Live music is one of my forever passions, whether it’s at a local dive, a weekend festival, or the rare stadium event. Chaos, music, creativity, and a lot of love fill my life. It’s a circus, but it’s mine.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Atlantic is a longtime favorite for its thoughtful, in-depth reporting and ability to explore complex topics with clarity and nuance. I also love Wired for its smart, forward-thinking coverage of technology and culture. And when I want something rooted in music and storytelling, I turn to The Bluegrass Situation. It captures the spirit of creative communities and feels a lot like a front porch conversation in print.
