Opinion: Emma Pinter and Wendy Buxton-Andrade: The ‘big beautiful bill’ is ugly for Coloradans’ health

As current and former county commissioners — one Republican and one Democrat — we don’t always agree on policy. But when it comes to the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” we see eye to eye: this legislation threatens the health, stability and futures of Coloradans across the political spectrum.

We compare each moment side-by-side with our mission and vision and evaluate our accomplishments based on what matters most—the impact they had on the lives of our county’s residents.
Federal funding helps green jobs in Adams County | OPINION
Bob Dylan said it best: the times they are a-changin. And Adams County is changing with the times. Clean-energy jobs are growing in our region, thanks to innovative businesses that have gotten a necessary boost from new, federal funding opportunities that make starting or growing a business a possibility that would otherwise be too risky. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was adopted by Congress in 2021 with rare bipartisan support.
Commentary: Clearing the Air About Methane Emissions and Climate Change
Vice President Kamala Harris visited Denver last month to discuss the Biden administration’s efforts to address climate change. The Vice President particularly highlighted the unprecedented federal investments this administration has championed through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for clean energy initiatives, climate resilience and environmental justice. As an elected official, I am charged with protecting the health, safety and welfare of our constituents.

Commentary: Clearing the Air About Methane Emissions and Climate Change If the Biden administration is serious about being a global leader in climate action, we need to strengthen the EPA’s proposal and move quickly to finalize this methane rule.

As Colorado moves into the odd, uncertain era of getting used to the COVID-19 pandemic lurking around while learning to live with the seemingly omnipresent consequences of the pandemic’s darkest days, cracks in our healthcare system have become increasingly exposed. Opinion: 3 Colorado county leaders on how the new legislative plan for transportation could be revved up
As county commissioners representing three very different parts of Colorado, we face a wide range of transportation challenges. Rural La Plata County sits on the New Mexico border and is home to 56,000 residents, many of whom must commute daily from remote areas. Eagle County, best known for its skiing and other recreation, hosts an estimated 5 million-plus visitors a year, and the state’s most important east-west corridor, Interstate 70, runs through it.
