Introduction While natural resources are continuously depleted (Lampert, 2019), the world population continues growing drastically (Weber & Sciubba, 2019) and is expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050; a number that could peak to 11 billion by the year 2100 (UN, 2019). This human overpopulation, along with other socioeconomic factors, would result in an increased demand for food in general and for animal-derived protein in particular which raises concerns about negative environmental impacts.
