I'm NJ Advance Media's Opinion blog manager, where I edit Star-Ledger op-eds, post original material and optimize content posted by various NJAM newsrooms. I pilot the NJ.com Opinion Facebook page and @NJ_Opinion on Twitter.
Prior to be named The Star-Ledger's engagement director, I was the paper's AME/Features. I had previously served as the features editor and the weekend entertainment editor. Among my favorite contributions was creating the "I am New Jersey" brand, which is a long-form profile of a Jerseyan who gives the state a good name. I also launched the On The Town special sections, which mapped out in print and online a dozen downtowns throughout the state.
Other highlights include:
Managing the Munchmobile, and overseeing the publishing of two books: "Jersey Eats" for the Munchmobile's 10th anniversary; and "A Slice of Jersey - The Ultimate Guide to Pizza in the Garden State," also part of the Munch brand
Overseeing the launch of the paper's N.J. Rock and Pop Hall of Fame with our talented music writers
Leading a team to explore the launch of a youth culture weekly tab, "Sledge." Though it didn't take off, it helped organize the launch of the paper's successful monthly magazine "Inside Jersey"
Before I came to the Ledger, I launched the first Spanish-language weekly newspaper in New Jersey out of Gannett's Home News-Tribune. Prior to that, I launched the first Latin alternative music column and chart for CMJ in New York City. I was a freelance Latin rock critic based in Los Angeles. At the Los Angeles Times, I was a community news reporter, first covering South L.A. and then parts of Orange County.
When journalism is not consuming me, I go fishing with my son, and I paint or do art with my daughter. I'm a casual European soccer fan, keeping tabs on major tournaments. I explore bilingualism and biculturalism. Love Pixar, DreamWorks and Disney animation. I take the edge off with IPA craft beer or single malt Scotch.
