Blueshirt Bandwidth #106: The Igor Aftermath
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 106 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Doug Lidster Episode—a nod to an unheralded No. 6 with a knack for big moments, which feels about right for this Rangers team.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread — 1 min read Photo by Emily Morter / Unsplash For most of the offseason, these Podcast Question Thread posts would sound the same: there's not a ton to talk about, so we need your questions. That's manifestly not the case this week. And don't get me wrong. We still want and need your questions. But there's certainly plenty to talk about. And we have plenty of questions of our own. Questions like, why? And, no, seriously, why?
Rangers vs. Canucks: Moving On
Joe remarked after the loss to the Washington Capitals, in which Igor Shesterkin went down with a season-ending injury, that last year's squad would have immediately rolled over. They rolled over in far less dire circumstances last year, and did it pretty regularly. But this year's team fought to the end against Washington. That was a good sign. We should acknowledge up front that the Vancouver Canucks are a terrible hockey team.
5 Realistic Goaltending Options for the New York Rangers
Losing Igor Shesterkin for the remainder of the season changes almost everything for the New York Rangers. Shesterkin is the best player on the team, and losing your best player is a devastating blow, no matter how many good complementary pieces you have on the roster. Just ask the Florida Panthers, who suffered mightily last season after losing Aleksander Barkov for the year with a knee injury.
Rangers vs. Capitals: Pain
What do you even say? Just yesterday, Roberto (filling in for Joe's Reaction of the Week) wrote about how the New York Rangers were fun again and we should just embrace it. And then the universe laughed and reminded us that we can't have nice things. Igor Shesterkin's injury is devastating. We don't know how serious it is yet.
Blueshirt Bandwidth #105: A Whole New Vibe for the Rangers
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 105 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Dan Girardi Episode—and with Eric out, Joe and Chip record during the Rangers' win over the Islanders, reacting live as Alexis Lafrenière completes his hat trick.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread — 1 min read Photo by Laurin Steffens / Unsplash What a difference a week makes. When we last recorded the podcast, the New York Rangers were coming off a 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins on the season-opening game that had far too much of a whiff of familiarity of Rangers losses from the last two season. The Rangers have gone on to rattle off three consecutive wins, with two of them coming against good hockey teams. So, much to talk about.
Rangers vs. Mammoth: Extinction of the Boring Rangers
That was not the most impressive win you'll ever see. But, in that sense, it was a pretty impressive win. Good teams find ways to win games where they aren't at their best, and I wouldn't say the New York Rangers were at their best Sunday night. Which isn't to say they were bad, either.
Blueshirt Bandwidth #104: Another Opening-Night Shutout. Time to Panic?
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 104 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Braden Schneider Episode—fitting after JJ Peterka undressed him in Boston—and with Joe suddenly called away, Eric and Chip take the wheel until he crashes the show late.
Rangers vs. Bruins: What Year is It?
Welp, we're back, aren't we? If you're the glass-half-full type out there, the New York Rangers were shut out 3-0 at home in the season opener last year. So, at least this was on the road? And now if you want to focus in on that half of the glass that's empty, they have their home opener on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Please, please, please score a goal. Find out on Thursday...
Blueshirt Banter 2026-27 NHL Standings Preview Roundtable
The 2026-27 National Hockey League season is upon us. Last year, to the chagrin of some, the Carolina Hurricanes pushed on a near-open door and won their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. Do they have what it takes to repeat? Or will we be crowning a new champion come spring? To get the season underway, the Blueshirt Banter crew takes a look at each division and gives its predictions for where each team will finish.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread — 1 min read Photo by Tim Mossholder / Unsplash The 2026-27 NHL regular season is upon us. The New York Rangers open their campaign tonight in Boston against the Bruins. The game is on ESPN and will be broadcast by Sean McDonough and Ray Ferraro, so if you thought the suffering was all over, you were very wrong.
Blueshirt Banter 2026-27 Season Preview Roundtable
Welcome back to New York Rangers hockey. The last two seasons weren't what anybody wanted. And we've seen a significant amount of change to this hockey team over that time. After releasing The Letter 2.0 last season, several long-time Rangers are now playing elsewhere. New Rangers have joined the team, either via trade like Pavel Dorofeyev, or from the draft, like Alberts Smits. Can the team rebound and make the playoffs this season? Here's what the Blueshirt Banter crew thinks.
Rangers vs. Islanders: Bring on the Regular Season
Well, that was fun. The New York Islanders broadcast team, who were the lone broadcasters for this final preseason contest, spent some time talking about the abbreviated preseason schedule with the NHL regular seasons expanding to 84 games. I'm on the record disliking the increased regular season schedule. I prefer fewer regular season games, but the interest of the almighty dollar militates in the opposite direction.
Blueshirt Bandwidth #103: Is Alberts Smits Already an Opening-Night Lock?
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 103 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Tom Poti Episode—fitting for a show that, like Poti, could go either way—and Joe shares how a drunk fan at the Garden gave Poti a nickname that stuck in his family for years.
Rangers vs. Devils: That Was a Hockey Game
Ladies and gentlemen, we're back. Well, kind of. It's game one of the preseason, which doesn't really mean all that much in the grand scheme of things. It especially doesn't mean all that much when the lineup looks like this: https://t.co/TJZ9e900jI pic.twitter.com/TzA4iVbpx5 — Eric Kohn 🥃 (@iEricKohn) September 21, 2026 So, let's adjust that headline up top to say "Game Notes: Wolf Pack vs.

I've got a combination of family commitments and work travel that means I'm out this week. So, you're getting Joe and Chip. Who knows if there will be more discussion of Chip's imaginary sister (I'm sure there will).
Blueshirt Bandwidth #102: No Perreault Extension & Canadien Kreider
Episode 102 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Brian Leetch Episode—Joe and Eric run through the short list of significant Rangers who've worn No. 2 before diving into the week's biggest storylines: Chris Kreider's landing spot in Montreal and whether a reunion ever made sense, the Rangers' quiet (and frustrating) inaction on a Gabe Perreault extension before the CBA's eight-year deal deadline, and Connor Hellebuyck's reported refusal to report to Winnipeg's training camp.

Podcast Question Thread — 1 min read Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya / Unsplash It’s that time again. Joe and I are recording Tuesday evening. And we’re dangerously close to having actual New York Rangers hockey-related things to talk about. The Rangers’ rookies have played two rookie camp games, and training camp is now upon us. Finally we can stop the guessing and start to see how the team’s roster and lines emerge. Finally we can see if we’ll be proven right or wrong about some of our predictions.

To read other articles in this series, go here. How do you solve a problem like Braden? For the New York Rangers, the answer to that question begins with a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
Blueshirt Banter #101: Re-sign Gabe Perreault Now!
Episode 101 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Ed Giacomin Episode. Joe and Eric dive into Fraser Minten's new seven-year, $7.2 million deal with Boston and what it means for a Gabe Perreault extension, debating what number is too high for an eight-year deal.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread Photo by Simone Secci / Unsplash Happy Labor Day to one and all! We're recording on Tuesday this week, because of the increased demands on Joe's labor. And we're tantalizingly close to having actual New York Rangers hockey to discuss. But we're not quite there yet. Which means, we still need your questions to get us through to the promised land. So, fire away!

To read other articles in this series, go here. On most other NHL teams, the identity of your backup goaltender probably merits a fair amount of discussion—perhaps roughly the amount of discussion the backup role on the New York Rangers generated this offseason. For most teams, they have a clear starting goaltender.
Blueshirt Bandwidth #100: We Made It to 100 Episodes
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: Copyright 2022 USA TODAY Sports) It's the 100th episode of Blueshirt Bandwidth. They said we wouldn't get here. Who said that? We're not sure, but they definitely exist and they definitely said it. We guess this is the John Davidson Episode, as he's the only Ranger to have worn 00 in a game. Joe is calling in from a hotel with poor internet and no video, marking the milestone with (fittingly) the roughest audio setup in the show's history.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread Photo by Hennie Stander / Unsplash It's here. The big moment. Episode 100. Some said we'd never get here. But we had those people exiled to an island in the Caribbean, never to be heard from again. That'll show 'em. But that also means that we need questions worthy of this historic occasion. That part is up to you. So, lead up your best centennial episode questions and fire away!
Blueshirt Bandwidth #99: Rangers Over/Under Picks for Every Player Who Matters
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 99 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Wayne Gretzky Episode, obviously—Eric is out, so Chip steps in and then unveils an over/under betting board on the season ahead that carries most of the show. A Gabe Perreault assists line turns into a real conversation about what Will Cuylle's next contract should look like.

Podcast Question Thread Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya / Unsplash I'm on the road this week for a conference that eats up a lot of my time. Fire away!
Blueshirt Bandwidth #98: Corey Pronman is Not a Serious Person
Episode 98 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is a nameless one—no Ranger has ever worn No. 98—but Joe and Eric still find plenty to dig into. They break down Scott Morrow's new one-year, two-way extension and what it does (and doesn't) say about his future with the team. Then, they torch Corey Pronman for leaving Gabe Perreault off his rankings of the top 156 NHL players and prospects under 23 entirely.
Podcast Question Thread
Podcast Question Thread Photo by Tim Mossholder / Unsplash Well, it's that time again. Somehow we managed not only not to talk about Braden Schneider for the third consecutive week, but also to give you nearly two hours of podcast brilliance. We're at it again either Tuesday evening or Wednesday evening this week. That's still TBD. But what isn't TBD is your questions. Well, your questions are to be determined, by you, of course. But their existence is predetermined. Anyway, fire away!
Blueshirt Bandwidth #97: The Case for Locking Up Gabe Perreault Right Now
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 97 is the Matt Gilroy Episode, and Joe and Eric revisit Gilroy's famously wooden commercial cameo before running through his actual Rangers résumé (142 games over three seasons, plus stops in Tampa, Florida, and Ottawa).

Blueshirt Bandwidth #96: We're Talking About Braden Schneider Again
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: USA TODAY Sports) Episode 96 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Emerson Etem episode. Joe and Eric dig into whether Braden Schneider's one-year, arbitration-avoiding deal actually makes him easier to trade, tying it to the Yankees' demotions of Anthony Volpe and Jason Domínguez and the case for trading a prospect a year too early rather than a year too late.
Bonus Bandwidth: Are the Dodgers Bad for Baseball? Plus Yankees Trade Deadline Thoughts
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) It's an entirely un-New York Rangers related bonus podcast, as Eric and Chip spend some time after the MLB trade deadline pondering if the Los Angeles Dodgers are bad for baseball, and then try to make sense of the moves—or, more specifically, the lack of moves—the New York Yankees made. Give it a listen (if you're also a baseball fan)! BONUS: Are the Dodgers Bad for Baseball?

Blueshirt Bandwidth #95: Kirill, McCann, or Jail?
Blueshirt Bandwidth Podcast — 1 min read (Image credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect) Episode 95 of Blueshirt Bandwidth is the Vinni Lettieri Episode. Joe and Eric break down Kirill Marchenko's availability out of Columbus and why the Rangers—having already spent their futures on Dorofeyev—don't have the assets left to get in on him, then split over whether Jared McCann is worth acquiring, with Joe a hard no and Eric more willing to pay up for center depth.
