Mental health and the church: The breath of life
In through your nose … out through your mouth …. When you have been to see your therapist and you start to learn new coping skills, what is the very first one that comes up?
Mental health and the church: Three things your Christian therapist CANNOT do
At the risk of letting you down, I have to admit — we therapists can’t do everything you might think we can. Licensed mental health therapists are held to a set of professional boundaries for your safety and ours, and it’s time we set the record straight. 1. We can’t be your friend. This means not in person and not online. It might seem harsh, but this boundary protects the integrity of the client-therapist alliance. In fact, it’s one of the most compassionate and effective approaches to therapy.
Mental health and the church: When to see a therapist
Let’s talk about how to know when it’s time to see a therapist. Probably today. Honestly! Remember all those things that happened back then — the things that you “just don’t think about?” Yeah. They’re still there. That person who spoke in such a way that sometimes you hear their voice coming out of your own mouth or that person you never wanted to be like, but now you find yourself doing exactly what they did — remember them?
FIRST-PERSON: Mental health and the church: An introduction
Mental health AND the church? Scandalous! Let’s talk about it! Allow me to introduce myself — I am Erin. I’m a wife, a mom (both biological and adoptive), a friend, a businesswoman, a Kentucky Baptist Convention missionary, a former homeschool mom, a Sunday school teacher, a licensed mental health therapist, an advocate for kids and families, a lover of puppies and potbelly pig — and I am a Christian. See, we can be two things at once. Have you ever been both happy and sad at the same time?

A Review of Sujetos del deseo.
In Sujetos del deseo, Chilean poet and translator Soledad Marambio posits that literary translators—so often considered an almost spectral presence in their silent rendering of a source text into a target language—can be a force of resistance and cultural mediators between Latin America and the United States. This somewhat niche book is a product of Marambio’s doctoral dissertation at the City University of New York, where she was mentored by Esther Allen and other prominent translator-scholars.

The Havana Napoleon Museum Is Arguably the Finest Outside of France
François Carlo Antommarchi, Napoleon's private doctor, died with his luggage packed with Napoleon possessions while in Santiago de Cuba. This painting was given by Napoleon to his Polish mistress, Maria Waleska, when she visited him during his exile on the island of Elba. It remained in her apartment in Warsaw throughout her lifetime.

A National Geographic Photographer’s Tips for Capturing Cuba
After more than 200 visits to Cuba over 28 years, National Geographic photojournalist Christopher P. Baker still finds memorable, double-take images on his journeys to the island. Photo credit: Christopher P. Baker I’m crouching on the floor of a humble solar (slum tenement) in Habana Vieja, hemmed into a corner with my back hard up against cheap pots and pans beneath an antique kerosene stove, as I shuffle around for the perfect angle.
Illegal RV sewage dumping in Seattle pollutes waterways and poses a public-health hazard

Many of these RV owners fail to follow proper waste-disposal protocols, instead discharging their accumulated sewer wastes, including “black water,” directly into the city storm drains.
City of Seattle’s inertia on street crime is intolerable
Put beat cops back on the streets of business districts. It can be done immediately without new funding. We believe the city of Seattle has confused “decriminalizing homelessness” with tolerating criminal acts. We are the executive directors of three Business Improvement Areas, or BIAs, in Seattle. BIAs have been established in 10 neighborhood business districts to help ensure that they remain safe, economically vibrant and accessible to everyone.
