What was your first job as a journalist?
Summer staff (reporter, sometimes editor, flyer collater and sales clerk) at the Shaunavon Standard in small-town Saskatchewan.
How is social media changing news?
Social media allows me to have an ongoing discussion with people who live knee-deep in the many issues I cover everyday.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A quick email is great, or mention something when we met at an event and we can follow up later.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. Makes me laugh and marvel everyday.
Why did you become a journalist?
I believed communication was the solution to the world's problems. Literally. A 17-year-old idealist. Now I'd say start locally, work slowly
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I started and edited my high school newspaper, Viewpoint. (It was a pretty small school. Graduating class of 44.)
