Ethan Simmons’s Biography

Journalism found me in 2019, when I joined my campus newspaper The Daily Illini on a whim. Two months later, I had switched into my school's journalism program.

I joined The News-Gazette the following summer, covering lives in the East Central Illinois community I'd grown up in, for the paper that had arrived on my doorstep for my entire life.

I continued at the DI, becoming news editor for the publication in March. My education as an editor and educator of journalism began as the pandemic strangled everything around us.

Last summer, I interned at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, writing for the business section. I was lucky enough to get an in-person experience, and I profiled a number of manufacturers and young workers adapting to COVID-19, among other things.

I'm an experienced writer with growing multimedia experience with audio, video and broadcast production.
