Artificial photosynthetic reduction of nitrogen to ammonia at room temperature using natural seawater
Abstract Natural photosynthesis uses light and water to fuel cellular activity. While great strides have been made in reproducing elements of photosynthesis, efficiently coupling dinitrogen reduction to ammonia with water oxidation remains challenging.
Synthesis of Polyurethanes Through the Oxidative Decarboxylation of Oxamic Acids: a New Gateway Toward Self-blown foams
Synthesis of Polyurethanes Through the Oxidative Decarboxylation of Oxamic Acids: a New Gateway Toward Self-blown foams Polyurethane (PU) thermoplastics and thermosets were prepared through the step-growth polymerization of in situ generated polyisocyanates through the decarboxylation of polyoxamic acids, in the presence of phenyliodine diacetate (PIDA), and polyols. The CO2 produced during the reaction allowed the access to self-blown polyurethane foams through an endogenous chemical blowing.
Origin, exposure routes and xenobiotics impart nanoplastics with toxicity on freshwater bivalves
Origin, exposure routes and xenobiotics impart nanoplastics with toxicity on freshwater bivalves Adeline Arini, Sandra Muller, Veronique Coma, Etienne Grau, Olivier Sandre and Magalie Baudrimont Abstract Various environmental aged plastic wastes were collected in the environment and crushed to submicronic scale to get a mix of nanoplastics (NPs) of different natures -mostly polyolefins (PE, PP), polyesters (PET) and polyvinylics (PS and PVC)- and undefined shapes (noted NP-L, mean...
Upgrading the chemistry of π-conjugated polymers toward more sustainable materials
Upgrading the chemistry of π-conjugated polymers toward more sustainable materials While organic electronics are ubiquitous in our daily lives, studies dealing with their environmental impact or their sustainability are scarce. Indeed, their preparation often requires hazardous conditions along with multi-step synthesis and purification reactions in order for them to be appropriately fabricated from refined petroleum products.
Hyperbranched Polyesters by Polycondensation of Fatty Acid-based ABn-type Monomers
Widely available vegetable oils were readily derivatized into chemically pure ABn-type monomers (n = 2 or 3). Their polymerization led to unprecedented hyperbranched polyesters. Four different AB2/AB3-type monomers bearing one A-type methyl ester and two or three B-type alcohol functions were purposely synthesized via two elementary steps, i.e. epoxidation of the internal double bond of the vegetable oil precursors followed by ring-opening of the epoxy groups in acidic conditions.
