The following is a guest contribution and reflects the author’s views alone. For information on how to submit a piece to the Opinion section, click here. Bonnie Watson Coleman has represented Princeton’s residents in Congress since 2015. Now she’s retiring, and 17 Democrats have declared that they are running for her seat in June’s primary.
Eugene D. Mazo: Fixed-term presidencies like ours are dangerous to democracies
Four years is a long time to be unhappy. It’s a long time to spend at the wrong high school or the wrong college. It’s a long time to toil away at the wrong job. And it’s an especially long time to be governed by the wrong president. In four years, the wrong president can inflict a significant amount of damage. And that makes America’s fixed term presidency a serious problem.
Mazo: New Jersey Has a New Ballot Problem. Here’s How to Fix It
OPINION When Mikie Sherrill becomes governor on January 20, the first item on her agenda should be to work with the legislature to fix how New Jersey runs its primary elections. Since last year’s demise of county line, which allowed New Jersey’s parties to choose where their endorsed candidates appeared on the ballot, dozens of newcomers have decided to run for public office. And that’s a good thing.
Eugene D. Mazo: Partisan sorting and affective polarization
There is a former state legislator in my town whose views I find to be highly suspect but whom I have come to admire. Reframing Building Management Systems Where Edge and Cloud Act in Unison
In reality, we’re seeing edge-to-cloud evolving to edge with cloud. The demanding need for buildings to become more dynamic and the growing focus on immediate ROI have spurred the evolution of a more powerful framework: “edge WITH cloud.” While the nuance is subtle, the shift challenges the idea that buildings must run on one or the other; buildings depend on both edge and cloud to perform at their best.

Sen. Rand Paul is wrong. The Trump impeachment trial is constitutional, and here's why
When Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial begins next week, Republican leaders will have little appetite for defending the former president’s behavior. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated that he believes Trump committed an impeachable offense when he incited an insurrection against Congress, and he has not ruled out voting against Trump in the Senate trial.
Democracy by the People
Thanks to a series of recent US Supreme Court decisions, corporations can now spend unlimited sums to influence elections, Super PACs and dark money groups are flourishing, and wealthy individuals and special interests increasingly dominate American politics. Despite the overwhelming support of Americans to fix this broken system, serious efforts at reform have languished.
The Best Candidate
The way American citizens elect a president in November is enshrined in the Constitution and has remained unchanged for two hundred years. By contrast, the rules by which American political parties nominate their presidential candidates have evolved dramatically over time. In recent years, these byzantine rules have allowed a number of unexpected candidates to win their party's presidential nomination.
The Perfect Letter of Recommendation
« The rival of my rival is . . . | Main Tuesday, October 20, 2015 The Perfect Letter of Recommendation I often find myself staying in the office late and coming in on weekends to finish writing recommendation letters for students. Writing these is often one of my favorite parts of my job, especially when I am writing for a student whom I know well and in whose future I really believe. Often, my letters will be long - 3-4 pages is normal for me - and filled with details.

In the dictionary, the word versatility is sometimes defined as "capable of or adapted for turning easily from one to another of various tasks, fields of endeavor, etc." On a law faculty, we all know that some of our colleagues happen to be very versatile.
