Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
In my senior year of high school, I took a job covering MMA cards for a website, even though my knowledge of MMA was limited at best!
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have considered it for the satisfying sounds, but I haven't found one that is both affordable and functional.
How is social media changing news?
There is a focus now on immediacy. It is about getting the story out fast instead of thorough reporting. There should be a balance of both.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Clark Kent, of course!
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Every day there are interesting stories that connect us and make us feel more human. We find them and bring them to the readers.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter, definitely. In between the random feuds and sensationalism are some truly engaging dialogues.
Who do you wish followed you?
Lil Nas X seems like a hilarious guy. We should be friends.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Anything that brings to light societal issues, so my work with The Egalitarian so far has been very exciting.
What's your favorite drink?
Diet Coke! I am trying to cut back, but caffeine helps and I don't drink coffee.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I am most likely with my fiancée or with my cat, likely trying to find an excuse to go get gelato.
