Homogeneous ice nucleation from water vapour suggested by elongated clouds on Mars
Abstract It is widely accepted that water ice cloud particles below the triple point of water form by heterogeneous nucleation (with the aid of a pre-existing particle).
The Martian mid-latitude subsurface ice is the remnant of a past ice sheet
Abstract On Mars, a relatively pure water ice layer lies beneath several centimeters of dry-soil at midlatitudes. Its widespread presence poleward of 60° latitude was detected by remote neutron spectroscopy. Recent observations of exposed ice indicate that the near-surface ice layer extends to 35° latitude and exhibits pronounced spatial structure. However, previous models did not capture the observed spatial structure of the midlatitude ice layer.
A Simple Subgrid‐Scale Model for Slope Winds on Mars
1 Introduction Modeling the Martian climate and weather can be approached using a hierarchy of models with various spatial resolutions, ranging from very high resolution Large Eddy Simulations (LES) at scales of just a few meters (Michaels & Rafkin, 2004; Spiga et al., 2010; Wu et al., 2021) to Global Climate Models (GCMs) that cover the entire planet at resolution of several hundred kilometers (Forget et al., 1999; Haberle et al., 2019; Neary & Daerden, 2018).

Pluto's Beating Heart Regulates the Atmospheric Circulation: Results From High‐Resolution and Multiyear Numerical Climate Simulations
Abstract Pluto's atmosphere is mainly nitrogen and is in solid‐gas equilibrium with the surface nitrogen ice. As a result, the global nitrogen ice distribution and the induced nitrogen condensation‐sublimation flows strongly control the atmospheric circulation. It is therefore essential for Global Climate Models to accurately account for the global nitrogen ice distribution in order to realistically simulate Pluto's atmosphere.
Healthy debate on early Mars
Main To the Editor — In a recent Editorial1, it was suggested that early Mars research is ‘at war’ and that entrenched positions on either side are impeding progress. We disagree with this depiction of the Mars community. Instead, the Mars climate evolution debate is dynamic and intensely data-driven, and we are all striving for more.
The challenge of atmospheric data assimilation on Mars
Data assimilation is carried out for the Martian atmosphere with the Mars Climate Sounder (MCS) retrievals of temperature, dust and ice. It is performed for the period Ls=180°to Ls=320°of Mars Year 29 with the Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter scheme and the Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD) Mars Global Climate Model (GCM). In order to deal with the forcings of aerosols (dust and water ice) on atmospheric temperatures, a framework is given for multivariate analysis.
