ADDITIVE VALUE OF NT-PROBNP RATIO IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MIXED AORTIC VALVE DISEASE PATIENTS
Management of mixed aortic valve disease (MAVD: concomitant aortic stenosis [AS] and regurgitation [AR]) remains challenging. Delay in therapeutic intervention and poor postoperative outcomes after aortic valve replacement (AVR) despite normal preoperative LV function has been reported in these patients. We thus aimed to assess the additive prognostic value of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) ratio in risk stratification of these patients.
COMPLETE VASCULAR RINGS: ASSESSING OUTCOMES AND RISK FACTORS FROM TWO CANADIAN CENTRES
Complete vascular rings (VR) are rare abnormalities of the great vessels. Patients are often symptomatic and frequently require an operation. The two most common forms are double aortic arch (DAA) and right aortic arch with aberrant left subclavian artery and ligament (RAALSA). Surgical approach and long-term care follow-up remain unclear; many patients with this pathology remain symptomatic after their surgery.

Fibromuscular subaortic obstruction is a progressive and recurrent pathology. Current literature states that it plateaus at 10 years but maximal reported follow-up is about 12 years. The primary outcome of the study was to determine the prevalence of surgical recurrence and to determine the time at which recurrence occurs after fibromyectomy.
