1 Introduction Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) are a class of enzymes with the ability to catalyse the hydrolysis of glycosidic bonds in complex sugars. This function is essential across all domains of life, as carbohydrates play critical roles in energy storage and structural integrity in both plants and animals (Bourne and Henrissat 2001; Henrissat et al. 1995). Among the various GH families, the GH17 family has been shown to play key roles in plant growth, development and defence responses.
