Bike locked to my bike - scam?
I had the misfortune to find my bike locked to another on a rack downtown after a meeting this morning. I was hoping it was a mistake that the person would have dealt with by the evening commute. No dice. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it a theft scam? Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 229 ▶ Reply to This

LFP - Car Wreck
This morning, there was car debris all over both LFP lanes and a police car blocking one of the LFP lanes between Diversey and Belmont. There had been a serious wreck in which a car had gone off LSD, swiped a tree and went across both paths. The path had been damaged. I didn't see the wreck and the car had been moved to Belmont Harbor by the time I came across the site but I hope the driver and nobody on the path was seriously injured.

Is drinking PBR required to be an "urban cyclist"?
So yeah, last night I rode out to meet a buddy for a beer, and a fellow in the bar commented to me how the lack of clipless pedals and the "loud" lighting on my road bike precludes me from being a true cyclist. Also, he mentioned that I ordered a Newcastle instead of PBR, so I wasn't "keeping it real". I didn't want to get into a whole debate with the guy because since he had obviously had a few too many PBRs, the discussion would go nowhere.
LFP Closure
I look forward to improvements on the Lakefront Path but detours must be provided while construction is underway. This is unacceptable: (Southbound just south of E Waldron Drive) Tags: ▶ Reply to This
I Feel Invisible
Sure, I have a higher powered headlight and a blinking red rear light. BUT, motorists still seem to be blind and oddly, driving too fast down narrow streets in pitch black darkness. The last week+ has been a bit unnerving. Anyone else experiencing night blind motorists and less safe conditions since the time change? Tags: ▶ Reply to This
judicial retention vote
I am very conflicted. I agree that society needs to take cyclists seriously and that when cyclists are injured or killed on the road that those responsible need to be held accountable. I am baffled by the seemingly light dispositions in the criminal cases that have been discussed on this forum. That being said I have issues with judges being scapegoated and I have a continuing strong opinion that civil rather criminal remedies are the only ones that really matter.
What The Hell Is Wrong With (Some) People?
Well more information is coming out about that poor guy who tried to chase down a hit-and-run driver...and was shot and killed this morning. Apparently he was more of a vigilante than 'good samaritan,' with several run-ins with the police for firing a weapon in a crowd. Again I say...leave the chase and apprehension to the police. We don't need vigilantes trying to lay down the 'LAW' as they understand it.

Trek 830 as BIG Man Bike
Hey Gang, Im new here. I bought a Trek 830 years ago late 90’s maybe early 2000’s. I was about 250 back when I use to ride bikes. Fast forward about 8 or 10 years and I’m now over 300 and need to be exercising. Can my Trek 830 be setup with bigger tires and a bigger seat and seat post to make it a Big Man bike for exercise? The post started to slip down back 60 or so pounds ago and the shifter started to act up so I stopped riding. Is the Trek 830 a good candidate to become a better big man bike?
Dr. Frankenstein's Bicycle
There were a couple of these at last month's Critical Mass (March 2018). Quasi motorcycle jackets too! On one hand more people in the mass is good, but on the other hand aren't we supposed to be advocating for human powered transport and getting away from engine dependence? I could see if the engines were used more for additional power (like electric bike assist) but I don't think those dudes were pedaling at all. I wonder if I would feel the same way about an electric bicycle.
New (or New-To-You) Bike Day! Post Your New Love Here!
I'd come to rely on Lyft too much. Too much $, too much gas-powered transportation. Just too much. I needed something to bring me to the oyster happy hours I've come to love, my constant search for tacos like they make back home, going to all the great (free!) Smithsonian museums, groaning as I pass the WH (given the current resident), etc. Basically, to get to know my new city and love it almost as much as I love Chicago.
Ohio St Beach portion
Curious when this will be fixed. From Friday evening. https://youtu.be/UiRqmt2UCnc
