Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first role in media was high school morning announcements. I’d casually report the DJIA close before reminding everyone about pizza day.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I had an electronic typewriter as a teenager which I found so much faster to put down my thoughts than using a computer.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I use a data-driven approach so would always fact check using regulatory data so would love the sources of the data presented when pitched.

Who do you wish followed you?

Michael Bloomberg is my inspiration. I have been a user of the Bloomberg terminal since I first got into the capital markets industry at 19.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Just start writing. A body of work opens doors faster than perfect ideas ever will. Don’t overthink it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Early evenings as the markets have closed and I am preparing for the next day.

What's your favorite drink?

A proper cortado. If you know of a place that makes it well include that as the subject line of your pitch. You'll have my attention.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That financial misconduct is too complex to understand. In reality, most cases follow simple, repeatable patterns once you know where to look.
