The landmark strategic plan for research, Making Research Matter, is aimed at all nurses working in health and social care. Launched on the 22 November 2021, the chief nursing officer (CNO) for England’s strategic plan for research sets out the ambition to create a “people-centred research environment that empowers nurses to lead, participate in and deliver research where research is fully embedded in practice and professional decision making for public benefit”.

How has a well‐meaning attempt to simplify the capture of safety incidents become an “I’ll Datix you” joke? Electronic Incident Reporting Systems (EIRS) are used in health services worldwide. Datix is used by over 900 organisations in 19 countries. After the horrors of the UK Francis Report, Gosport and other health system failures, services desperately needed an alternative to cumbersome, infrequently used, paper reporting.
