Elephant Rumblings: Monday Roundup Original
What a crazy weekend it’s been. We kicked off the second half of the 2026 MLB Season with what could only be called a drubbing (or a pummeling as I called it in the wrap-up)on Friday night in front of a home crowd. Our pitching was disastrous and our hitting nonexistent. In phase 2a of the reshuffling that began Wednesday after the All-star game, recently DFA’d righty starter Aaron Civale was traded to the Chicago Cubs for minor league pitcher Aiden Moffett on Saturday.

Elephant Rumblings: Looking Ahead
As the A’s June-Swoon evolves into a deeper July collapse (the Athletics won on July 1 and have not tasted victory since then) it would make sense to think about salvaging the season and looking forward to 2027. Three major MLB events will take place in the next thirty days, two of which will have a strong impact on the A’s future. Of course, next week is All-Star week.

Frank Polito An interesting thing has happened as we've been watching our A's improve this season. We've blinked, and the American League stinks! With all due respect to some longstanding talented teams who have consistently played good baseball, something terrible has hit the A.L. When you wake up Thursday morning and check out the standings, you'll see something that I don't think I've ever seen before. There are only four teams in the American League with a winning record.

With just about twenty percent of the MLB season completed, the A’s remain atop the American League West Division by one game over the Seatle Mariners. It’s the slimmest of leads and with so munch of the season still to go, it’s still a meaningless position. So, looking back what do you think is the biggest positive so far this season. To me it’s Shea Langeliers doing exactly what we hoped he would do; build on last season’s success and improve his game this year.

It’s way too early to get excited about the standings. I’d be saying the same thing if we were in last place in the American League West Division with the same nonchalance. I may even say the same thing on September 1, albeit the A’s in first, third or fifth.
