Fred DuVal’s Biography

Fred DuVal is an entrepreneur, civic leader, trusted advisor, and author. As the President of DuVal and Associates, a firm he founded in 2001, he provides expert advice on government affairs and policy to clients based in Washington, D.C., and state capitals nationwide. His firm has worked with various healthcare, energy, finance, and infrastructure organizations.

DuVal has significantly impacted state and national political landscapes throughout his career. He currently serves his second term as a Regent for the Arizona Board of Regents, a role he first assumed in 2007. His leadership in the Board has been notable, as he became the first person in Arizona's history to be appointed by both Democratic and Republican governors. Over the years, he has served as Chairman in 2011 and 2023. He has been actively involved in educational reforms, including creating initiatives to improve credit transfer between community colleges and universities and increasing access to higher education in Arizona.

In addition to his work with the Board of Regents, DuVal holds several other prominent positions. He is a senior advisor to a major global law firm, the Chairman of a publicly traded mining company, and a director at a nationwide auto dealership group. His diverse roles across public and private sectors highlight his ability to lead in complex environments and contribute to significant projects in various industries.

DuVal's experience in national politics includes serving as Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs during the Clinton administration. In this capacity, he worked closely with state governors and other elected officials to manage intergovernmental relations and contribute to major policy initiatives such as welfare reform and education funding. Earlier in his career, he was Deputy Chief of Protocol for the United States, where he played a crucial role in managing high-profile diplomatic visits and international events.

DuVal has also authored books, including a collection of opinion pieces and a study of what makes Arizona an appealing place to live. His writing has contributed to public discussions on various issues, from higher education to clean energy. He has actively supported numerous civic organizations and served on the boards of various nonprofit groups.

Fred DuVal earned a B.A. from Occidental College and a J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. Born in New Jersey and raised in Tucson, Arizona, he enjoys hiking and has completed the Grand Canyon trek in each of the last five decades. He is married to a former director at Mayo Clinic, and together, they have two sons. His leadership, dedication, and service continue to make a lasting impact in both his community and the broader public sphere.
