Frontier Galvanizing’s Biography

Frontier Galvanizing, officially known as Frontier Hot-Dip Galvanizing, Inc., has provided trusted corrosion protection for more than 75 years. Based in Buffalo, the company delivers hot-dip galvanizing services to industries that support vital infrastructure. Bridges, highways, stadiums, and utilities have all relied on Frontier’s artistry, reinforcing the durability and safety of structures that serve communities every day with lasting strength and dependability.

Founded in 1948 on Austin Street, Frontier began by offering reliable galvanizing solutions to local manufacturers and contractors. Its reputation for practical service and dependable results quickly set it apart. As national infrastructure projects expanded in the 1960s, the growing demand for capacity revealed the need for larger facilities. This challenge became the catalyst for a new chapter in the company’s long-standing story of resilience and innovation.

In 1970, Ray V. Pierce and a group of shareholders purchased Frontier, seeing its potential to grow beyond the small Austin Street shop. Guided by Ray’s vision, the company soon relocated to Elmwood Avenue, into a facility that provided the space and resources needed for larger and more complex projects. This strategic move not only improved efficiency but also positioned Frontier to play a larger role in regional and national infrastructure.

Soon after, Ray’s brother, Lewis G. Pierce, joined him, and together they oversaw expansion through land acquisitions that allowed greater capacity. With more space for galvanizing and larger laydown yards, the company could handle bigger assemblies and higher-volume orders. These changes enabled Frontier to deliver on tight schedules for public utilities, energy providers, contractors, and state transportation departments, steadily earning trust across the industry.

Frontier’s growth has always been tied to a commitment to innovation and responsibility. Investments in process improvements, such as flux treatment, acid regeneration, and hex-free passivation, have boosted efficiency while reducing environmental impact. Membership in both U.S. and international galvanizer associations connects the company to evolving research, compliance updates, and best practices that strengthen its position in the global market.

Frontier Galvanizing’s work can be seen in projects like the Peace Bridge, Boston’s Green Line Extension, the Queensboro Bridge, the Daytona Motor Speedway, and the Buffalo Bills’ Highmark Stadium. Today, under the leadership of Lewis G. Pierce and his son Robert, Frontier continues to combine proven values with forward-thinking innovation, delivering galvanizing solutions designed to stand the test of time.
