Abstract In this work, the crude extract of Cynomorium songaricum Rupr. (CSR) was employed as the carbon source. Nitrogen- and chlorine-co-doped carbon dots (N, Cl-CDs) were synthesized via a hydrothermal method using ethylenediamine and concentrated hydrochloric acid as dopants. The as-prepared N, Cl-CDs exhibited a uniform particle size, favorable photostability, and strong fluorescence, with a maximum emission at 503 nm upon 385 nm excitation.
