The cuticular lipid covering the integument of insects is exposed to the environment and involved in a variety of functions offered by insect body surfaces, ranging from protection against the environment, such as the control of water transpiration, the reduction of abrasive damage, and the prevention of pathogen intrusion, to the communication between insects from intraspecific to interspecific interactions.
Anisotropic dynamics of benzonitrile (BzCN) confined in the cocrystalline region of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) was studied by means of dielectric spectroscopy. Especially examined was the effect of orientation of the crystalline phase for two types of cocrystals, δ and ε clathrates, on the dielectric relaxation behavior.
A photoresponsive polymeric material, in which [2]rotaxane units with α-cyclodextrin threading onto an azobenzene derivative is used as a topological cross-link for the main chains of the polymeric material in aqueous media, was achieved. [2]Rotaxane structures were found to act as movable links in the polymer network, and the mechanical properties of the material were enhanced to show a rupture strain of 2800%.
