Bothrops venom variation drives niche-specific pharmacology through Ca 2+ signalling and membrane damage
Abstract Snake venom activity exhibits evolutionary patterns within genera and varies according to ecological niche. By examining venoms from species inhabiting distinct environments, niche-specific functional differences can be uncovered. Bothrops, a diverse and medically important Neotropical pit viper genus, shows known clade-specific differences in coagulotoxicity.
Identification of SEC16B as a novel regulator of glucose homeostasis - Diabetologia
Abstract Glucose homeostasis, essential for metabolic health, requires coordinated insulin and glucagon activity to maintain blood glucose balance. Dysregulation of glucose homeostasis causes hyperglycaemia and glucose intolerance, hallmark features of type 2 diabetes. While SEC16 homologue B (SEC16B), an endoplasmic reticulum export factor, has been linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes and lipid metabolism, its role in glucose regulation remains poorly defined.
The Use of Free Weight Squats in Sports: A Narrative... : The Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research
The importance of muscular strength should not be underestimated. Strength is the ability to produce force against an external resistance (181,183); its dynamic application provides a mechanism for movement (F = ma). Because of its relationship to movement, strength is an integral aspect underpinning sport performance capability. Furthermore, strength should be thought of as a “vehicle” that carries with it numerous characteristics important for sport performance (1,39,50,52,64,66,71,176,179).
Can the cross-education of strength attenuate the impact of detraining after a period of strength training? A quasi-randomized trial - European Journal of Applied Physiology
Abstract Unilateral strength training may attenuate the decline in muscle strength and size in homologous, contralateral muscles. This study aimed to determine whether the cross-education of strength could specifically attenuate the effects of detraining immediately after a short (prehabilitation-type) period of strength training. Twenty-six strength-trained participants were assigned to either four weeks of unilateral strength training of the stronger arm (UNI) or detraining (Detrain).
iPSC-derived PSEN2 (N141I) astrocytes and microglia exhibit a primed inflammatory phenotype - Journal of Neuroinflammation
Human control iPSCs were obtained from the Cedars-Sinai iPSC Core cell repository (Los Angeles, USA). Heterozygous fAD PSEN2 (N141I) iPSCs were obtained from both the Cedars-Sinai (Los Angeles, USA) and New York Stem-Cell Foundation cell repositories (New York, USA). All lines were generated from dermal fibroblasts obtained from skin punch biopsies, reprogrammed using either a non-integrating episomal plasmid or mRNA transfection and showed normal karyotyping.
PHASE 1B/2A STUDY OF AZD4573 (CDK9I) AND ACALABRUTINIB IN PATIENTS (PTS) WITH RELAPSED/REFRACTORY DIFFUSE LARGE B‐CELL LYMPHOMA (R/R DLBCL)
Introduction: AZD4573, a potent and highly selective CDK9i, rapidly induces apoptosis in human haematologic cancer cell lines. In a first-in-human trial, AZD4573 monotherapy had manageable safety in pts with r/r haematologic cancers and antitumour activity in those with DLBCL.

Within Session Exercise Sequencing During Programming for Complex Training: Historical Perspectives, Terminology, and Training Considerations - Sports Medicine
Abstract The primary aim of this narrative review was to outline the historical genesis of resistance training strategies that incorporate high-load, low-velocity exercises and low-load, high-velocity exercises in the same training session allowing for different “exercise sequences” to be simultaneously implemented. Discrepancies between scientific works and the terminology used within contemporary sport science publications are identified.
Comparison of Weightlifting, Traditional Resistance Training and Plyometrics on Strength, Power and Speed: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis - Sports Medicine
Abstract Background Weightlifting training (WLT) is commonly used to improve strength, power and speed in athletes. However, to date, WLT studies have either not compared training effects against those of other training methods, or been limited by small sample sizes, which are issues that can be resolved by pooling studies in a meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION Weightlifting is a sport where the snatch and the clean and jerk are contested. In weightlifting competitions, athletes have 3 attempts to lift the maximum amount of weight in both lifts; with athletes placing within their respective bodyweight class as determined by the sum of the highest completed lift for both movements.

The Effect of Nordic Hamstring Exercise Intervention Volume on Eccentric Strength and Muscle Architecture Adaptations: A Systematic Review and Meta-analyses - Sports Medicine
Abstract Background Although performance of the Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) has been shown to elicit adaptations that may reduce hamstring strain injury (HSI) risk and occurrence, compliance in NHE interventions in professional soccer teams is low despite a high occurrence of HSI in soccer. A possible reason for low compliance is the high dosages prescribed within the recommended interventions.
The impact of strength level on adaptations to combined weightlifting, plyometric and ballistic training
The purpose of this investigation was to determine if the magnitude of adaptation to integrated ballistic training is influenced by initial strength level. Such information is needed to inform resistance training guidelines for both higher- and lower-level athlete populations.
