Gabriel Alves’s Biography

Gabriel Alves is a journalist and writes mainly about science and health for Folha de S.Paulo and works in the area of digital strategy at the pharmaceutical company Novartis. He has a degree in biomedicine from Unifesp (2007) and a Ph.D. in structural and functional biology from the same institution (2014); he holds a bachelor's degree in applied and computational mathematics from USP (2018). In 2014 started his journalistic career at Folha, where he cover topics ranging from the atom to Alzheimer's disease; he was also a blogger and columnist for the newspaper. He won the Impa-SBM Journalism Award twice, in 2018 and 2019 (from the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics and the Brazilian Mathematical Society); he was one of the winners, in the science and technology category, of the Petrobras Journalism Award in 2017; ranked first in the SBD Press Award, of the Brazilian Diabetes Society, in 2019.
