Gary Hunninghake’s Biography

Recently retired, Dr. Gary Hunninghake maintains an impressive history in the medical field. His work has been featured in 250 peer-reviewed publications, and he has also authored and co-authored several hundred abstract articles on such topics as surviving with pulmonary fibrosis, the effects of cigarette smoke on the lungs, and the consequences of asbestos exposure to the chest area. Dr. Gary Hunninghake most recently worked at the University of Iowa, from which he retired in 2011 as its Director for Clinical and Translational Science. He also served as the Director of the Translational Bioscience Graduate Program.
At the University of Iowa, Dr. Gary Hunninghake also fulfilled positions such as Professor of Medicine, faculty member for the Interdisciplinary Immunology Training Program and the Medical Scientist Training Program, and Director of the Graduate Program in Translational Biomedical Research. Dr. Gary Hunninghake has enjoyed a long career that has granted him several accomplishments, including the honor of being included in the list of Best Doctors in America from 2001 to 2011.
