close-up portrait of a bald eagle...you need to see this and here is why!
Sat Oct 14, 2023, 01:19 PM Gato Moteado (9,695 posts) close-up portrait of a bald eagle...you need to see this and here is why! i was probably about 8 feet away from this bird, which was in an aviary at a raptor rescue center and there was a thick gauge screen between us. the amazing part is that the bird was only a few inches behind the screen. i used my nikon Z8 with the 300mm f/4 PF lens shot wide open at f/4.

I didnĂt realize just how small these monkeys are until you posted pics of them holding chunks of banana, like this one. The banana looks huge clasped in those tiny fingers. invasion of monkeys at the bird blind!
Response to Gato Moteado (Original post) Tue Aug 29, 2023, 12:40 PM Who he heck would 'ave thought . . . Great stuff even if they do mess with the plan! The sunlight can be mitigated if not eliminated. I took the liberty of running it through Topaz for noise and PSP for a quick mask and exposure change on the background. A little heavy handed on the exposure perhaps. Total time maybe 3 minutes. I won't save anything to disk as this is just an exercise.

Sun Aug 27, 2023, 06:48 PM ...i did a quick post process job on it....i need to redo it and take my time and lessen or eliminate the excessive glistening on his nose and elsewhere on his face. if i can do that, this one is a keeper and hopefully i find many more opportunities like this one.

some new insect photos
Here are some recent photos of insects. It's been a little while since I've posted any of these. I've been working on some new ones, along with reshooting and editing most of the old ones as I get better at them. Clicking on these images will take you to my Smugmug page where you can view the full resolution files, which I recommend you do if you're a fan of sharp macrophotographic detail. These images were all photographed with a Nikon 40mm macro lens on a WeMacro indexing focus rail.

is this a real frog or AI to trick you?
Response to Gato Moteado (Original post) Mon Jul 24, 2023, 02:15 PM 4. It's definitely not a real frog. It's way too hot for frogs where I live and not nearly humid enough. We do have toads though. And if it were AI, how would I know it was necessarily 'to trick me', how is that defined? That'd require knowing the creator's intent which sounds difficult from a distance. Also it could be not an actual photo of a frog, but not necessarily 'A.I.'.

hey andy, check out the freaky background on this shot i made
Tue May 2, 2023, 11:46 AM as you can see, the monkey was backlit....but the background is so surreal that it looks like i did a bad composite job on it. and i had to desaturate the background....before i did that, it looked like the color combo of the stereotypical mid-70s kitchen....avocado and green. the background was so unnatural and hideous....have you ever seen anything like this straight out of a camera? did the lighting fool the AWB that badly or is that normal from backlighting?

With trumps finger prints New York
Response to doc03 (Reply #3) Tue Apr 4, 2023, 08:57 AM 4. This is the money shot in terms of evidence. With so many illicit affairs and assaults, some of the women may have kept DNA. Mary Trump has possibly given DNA to the court, so the prosecutors know if Trump committed these crimes if the women kept his DNA. But the court needs DNA from Donald to confirm. re: seaweed hitting FL; any agro tech people in here?
Fri Mar 17, 2023, 03:20 PM i keep seeing the 5000 mile seaweed floating mass story on the news. it's hitting FL now and piling up on the beaches. don't they make some organic fertilizers out of seaweed? is this type of seaweed suitable for making organic fertilizer? if so, why aren't agro companies rushing to harvest that stuff?
does anyone know where aggregated covid mortality info can be found?
Sat Mar 4, 2023, 07:31 AM what's been hard or impossible to find throughout the pandemic is covid mortality rates showing: vaccination status age pre-existing conditions what i want to determine is, with the 3000 *give or take* weekly deaths, how many people dying are unvaxxed and of the vaxxed who are dying, what were the ages and health statuses.

attn: ANDY.....i have a question and i know you know the answer....
Fri Feb 24, 2023, 02:00 PM andy, back around 1979 or 1980, when i bought my first SLR, a nikon FE, the all black body cost $15 or $25 more than buying the body that was part chrome. was there any purpose other than aesthetics of the camera body that made the all black body better? and why was the price $25 higher: did it cost nikon more to produce the all black body? did the other manufacturers do this also?
birds of micro-four-thirds....inspired by andy
Wed Feb 1, 2023, 06:36 PM i'm here in sunny costa rica, spending almost all of every day shirtless and in shorts while my friends are all freezing back in the US. i've been watching andy's posts of photos of frozen weather cardinals in flight, thinking that i need to do something similar. andy has some cool new tech for nailing the focus on fast moving subjects; something i never have mastered but i am intrigued by olympus gear for sure.

I am miserable! I have all the money I will need for the rest of my life.
I have all the political power I ever sought and work day and night to keep it. I have all the objects of material wealth money can buy including homes, autos, planes yachts and more. Yet, I am a miserable human because I can't control the freedom and intimate lives of others around me who seem to enjoy sex, family, hard work, kindness, helping others, and diversity. I despise those who strive to make the fairytale "American Dream" a reality for all. I am a Republican. I need a break.

The blood red moon, handheld, through the trees.
Response to AndyS (Reply #2) Mon May 16, 2022, 08:00 PM 5. Thanks so much Andy! I almost forgot to shoot the eclipse. I was hard at work editing some event photos that I had shot earlier in the day. I was really tired, and didn't want to bother with a tripod. I thought I would just try it handheld to see what happens. To be honest, I underestimated how dark the full red moon would be, and how high the ISO would go. The original files were super ugly with noise.

A Summary Statement for the Photo Group:
Response to CaliforniaPeggy (Original post) Mon Jan 3, 2022, 08:22 PM 9. This could be a potentially serious issue. Plagiarism is a dishonest and a deceitful thing but copy right infringement can become a legal issue. That said serious action has been taken to deal with a serious situation. It's done. This is a fun and gregarious place. The contest isn't and never has been about "winning". There aren't any prizes or trophies.
