What was your first job as a journalist?
I started my blog in 2008.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
yes! My father was a high school English teacher and had one that I used often!
How is social media changing news?
I am disenchanted with social media because ANYONE can post ANYTHING without any fact checking and it just takes off. It's misinformation.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist means writing compelling pieces that evoke an emotional response from people or simply to inform people of the facts.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer short, descriptive emails with facts, expectations, and what is being offered.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A laptop and a phone is all I really need!

Currently, it's Instagram

I don't know, this isn't a personal goal of mine. If you like me, follow me, if not, it's fine.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a journalist because I love writing. It is how I eloquently express myself.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I don't think we had a high school newspaper. I went to a small high school.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am most proud of my story about what to do when a friend has cancer because my husband has cancer.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stay true to yourself, don't try to cheat the system by just using false click bait.
When's the best time to pitch you?
anytime!
What's the best pitch you ever got?
A pitch with full travel and expenses paid for to write a piece about how peanuts are farmed!
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I gotta love the pitches to try a super low priced product like tampons or hemorrhoid cream without any form of compensation.

in the garden or kitchen
