Achieving Resolutions Requires You Check Regularly on Progress
Did you make any plans for change in 2018? Even this early in the year, many such goals and resolutions have already have been abandoned. Or, at least, they’re at severe risk of being discarded. These failures are often not due to lack of desire. Most people who make resolutions do so earnestly, trying in some way to improve their lives, careers, personalities, or communities. And yet why is why is it so tough to stick with our resolutions?
Poka-Yoke Needed on the Factory Floor and Beyond | Quality
While buying a pair of dress slacks recently, I was surprised to see the department manager using a mistake-proofing device to mark the pant length for tailoring. He placed an upside-down, Y-shaped tool on the floor and against the back of my pant leg. At the top of the device, he marked a line on the trousers, which established the distance to the ground. Based on that line and the amount of break I wanted in the trousers, the tailor would know where to hem. Poka-yoke for pants.
In Search of the Right Tools
I often have been guilty of using a tool that I’m comfortable with or have at hand, rather than the tool I really need: turning a bolt with pliers, cutting a wire with scissors, or pounding a protruding nail with anything I can find. It’s fast and efficient, right? And we all do it.
A Brief Encounter in Pittsburgh with a Driverless Future

In the front seat were two Uber staffers, one behind the wheel and the other in the passenger seat with a large laptop that exhibited a real-time, three-dimensional map of the surroundings.

Brewers Need to Benchmark their Products
Every company and industry can benefit from benchmarking, especially in markets undergoing dramatic growth, as customer expectations and competition change overnight. I thought about this recently when heading out to a craft brewery. In 2011, I was given the book Ohio Breweries by Rick Armon. I had hoped to drink at each of the 49 breweries listed within a year, but managed to stop at only a dozen or so. I liked every beer at every brewery I visited.
