Israeli minister: Why America joined Israel in Iran war
ByGILA GAMLIELMARCH 6, 2026 08:00Updated: MARCH 6, 2026 08:02 Many Americans are asking a fair question. Why is America once again standing with Israel? Why are we involved in this fight? The honest answer is simple. Because the threat never stopped at Israel, and it never would have. Before the war, Iranian officials spoke openly and proudly about possessing uranium enriched to 60%, enough for 11 nuclear bombs. Not theory. Not rhetoric. A declaration of intent.
Protests in Iran signal cracks in the Islamic regime
Jerusalem Post/Opinion Mk Gamliel: As protests spread, Iran regime’s weakness is becoming harder to hide - opinion As unrest grows across Iran, the protests reveal a regime increasingly reliant on fear, and a population demanding dignity, freedom, and change.

Thanks to Trump, true peace in the Middle East can finally be achieved - opinion
In November 2023, one month after Hamas rampaged across southern Israel, murdering over 1,200 Israelis while injuring, raping, and maiming many others, I wrote (“Victory is an opportunity for Israel in the midst of crisis” November, 19, 2023) a bold vision of how to ensure that such a massacre would never happen again. In the days after the attack, my team at the Intelligence Ministry and I looked at all the possible options to ensure Gaza would never be a threat to Israel again.
The academic community must avoid politically motivated boycotts - opinion
When scientists are estranged from their peers because of politics, cooperation, the sharing of information, and the advancement of human knowledge, become much more difficult. Most of humanity is well aware of the importance of keeping science, culture, and sports apart from the international political situation, but we still often witness an undesirable mix-up of these areas.
Victory is an opportunity for Israel in the midst of crisis - opinion
Albert Einstein was quoted as saying: “In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity.”The State of Israel is in the midst of one of its greatest crises, certainly for at least two generations.More than 1,200 of our people were viciously murdered, 239 brutally kidnapped, thousands more injured, and 240,000 made homeless by the Nazi-like regime in Gaza. Women were raped. The elderly were abused and taken hostage. Children were beheaded.
Remember Mahsa Amini by ushering in a democratic, free Iran - opinion Original
As we stand on the precipice of change, marking the first anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Mahsa Amini, we are compelled to raise our voices louder, to burn the flames of justice brighter, and to champion the cause of freedom with unyielding resolve.
Israel and Iranian people can fight the Iran regime together - opinion
A few weeks ago, I was honored to host His Highness Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, son of the Shah of Iran, and a leader and advocate of the principles of freedom, democracy and human rights for the Iranian people. His recent visit was a symbolic renewal of the historic, natural and robust ties between the Iranian and Israeli peoples. Our peoples do not just share a rich and vibrant history and fraternity, but also a common enemy in the extremist autocracy of the ayatollah regime.
Is Netanyahu turning Israel into an unhealthy democracy? -opinion
Not only our physical well-being but the health of our society has been sorely tested during lockdown. WILL PRIME MINISTER Benjamin Netanyahu turn a blind eye to mass haredi evasion and risk allowing coronavirus to spread again and set off a third wave of infection in the country? (photo credit: YOSSI ALONI/FLASH90) Not only our physical well-being but the health of our democracy has been sorely tested during this time.
Gov't approves deposit for large bottles, expected to encourage recycling

Ecoams Planet's plastic bottle recycling solution (photo credit: ECOAMS PLANET) People will soon be able to receive deposits for 1.5 liter plastic bottles for the first time, the Environmental Protection Ministry announced on Sunday. The current law regulating deposits came into effect in 2001.

Gov't to float Environmental Services Co. on TASE
The government plans selling a 49% stake in the company, which handles hazardous waste. The Ministerial Committee on Privatization has approved the flotation of the Israel Environmental Service Company (ESC) on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. According to the Government Companies Authority plan, the state will sell a 49% stake in the company which handles hazardous waste. The privatization is designed to inject capital into the company and improve its corporate governance.
Environmental Min., NGO launch campaign to combat use of plastic
The campaign calls on the Israeli public to leave the disposable tableware at home and to transition to reusable products that will keep Israel's beaches clean and plastic-free. "Disposable plastic - Not on my beach!" (Credit: Environmental Protection Ministry ) The Environmental Protection Ministry and EcoOcean, a non-profit organization, released on Wednesday an informational campaign calling on the public to reduce their use of disposable plastic and keep Israel's beaches clean.
Trump’s newly declared policy on Syria is dangerous for US and Israel
From the beginning, the argument that US President Donald Trump is somehow “good for Israel” has been foolish and incorrect. Now, with the president’s explicit promise to stop targeting Syrian President Bashar Assad – a gesture designed to impress his public that America’s overriding objective is still to eliminate Sunni Islamic State – Jerusalem can expect reciprocally greater hazards from Hezbollah. UAE engagement with Israel, Greece and Cyprus aids Egypt’s rising regional role
Combat pilots from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently made history by flying alongside their Israeli counterparts in a joint air force exercise hosted by Greece. Since the UAE and Israel have no formal diplomatic ties, the event is a stunning indication of the oft-rumored developing relations between the two states.
Accelerating the autonomous-vehicles industry in Israel
Following the recent multi-billion dollar acquisition of Israeli company Mobileye by Intel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly stated that his government plans to further assist companies developing technologies in the area of smart mobility by cutting down regulation, thus enhancing Israel’s prominence in the area of autonomous vehicle technology, i.e. driverless cars. This is an important statement which the burgeoning Israeli market has long been waiting for.
Telegraphic reminders of reality
Upon her return from a class trip to Poland, taken as part of her Israeli high school education, my daughter recounted with passion the experience of seeing the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – now a museum of atrocities – in person. I asked her how she felt about the letter I and the other parents had been instructed to write in secret, which the teacher was to distribute three days after the 11th graders arrived in Poland.
Toward a higher education for all
Share on facebook Share on twitter The campus of Tel Aviv University. (photo credit: TEL AVIV UNIVERSITY) X Dear Reader, As you can imagine, more people are reading The Jerusalem Post than ever before. Nevertheless, traditional business models are no longer sustainable and high-quality publications, like ours, are being forced to look for new ways to keep going. Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall.
The bigotry of ‘intersectionality
What do Hamas and the anti-violence group Black Lives Matter have in common? What does Israel have in common with the Ku Klux Klan? What does the Islamic Republic of Iran, which throws gays off rooftops, have in common with gay right activists? What do feminists have in common with radical Islamic sexists who support the honor killing and genital mutilation of women? Nothing of course. Unless you subscribe to the pseudo-academic concept of intersectionality.
World shrugs as Hezbollah prepares massive civilian deaths
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah recently warned Israel that his Iran-backed terrorist group could produce mass Israeli casualties by attacking a huge ammonia storage tank in Haifa, and the nuclear reactor in Dimona. Also last month, Tower Magazine reported that, since the beginning of the Syrian civil war, Iran has provided Hezbollah with a vast supply of “game-changing,” state-of-the-art weapons, despite Israel’s occasional air-strikes against weapons convoys.
JPost Editorial: Agunot in Zion
In a landmark ruling last week, the High Court of Justice defended the basic human rights of a lone woman against a chauvinistic rabbinic establishment. The “Aguna from Safed” case dealt with the tragic story of a 34-year-old woman whose husband fell into a coma as the result of a serious motorcycle accident. Relevant to your professional network? It’s not about the army
The IDF has everything from accountants to rabbis to computer engineers, doctors, lawyers and more. The army encompasses almost every field, and in every professional office there are low-ranking soldiers working as secretaries and aides, many of whom return to civilian life every day after work. IDF personnel are drawn from every sector of society, including Arab Israelis, Druse, secular, religious and immigrants. There are soldiers who are blind, wheelchair bound and even intellectually disabled.
Viewpoint: The upside-down moral universe of BDS supporters and the UN
IT’S WIDELY known that Israel is often singled out for criticism and held to an unfair double standard. Nowhere is this more evident than in the relentless Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns seeking to vilify Israel and in the annual adoption of numerous one-sided anti-Israel UN resolutions. Now, when compared to the worsening atrocities in Syria, the assault on the Jewish state may have surpassed all previous levels of hypocrisy and absurdity. Relevant to your professional network?
Nervous times for Jews in America
Over the past month, there have been 57 bomb threats to 48 Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) around the United States. Jewish infants sleep at our JCCs in daycare, our toddlers learn their first Hebrew letters in the JCC classrooms, our children attend camps held across the JCC network and our community comes together to learn within the JCC halls.
Trump and Israel’s Gaza policy
US President Donald Trump’s executive order banning entry to the United States for citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries (including Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Syria) and the 120-day disruption of the US Refugee Admissions Program will cause irreparable harm to hundreds of thousands of individuals, ripping apart families, ruining opportunities for students and professionals, and endangering the lives of refugees seeking asylum in the US.
February 6, 2017: Fundamental value
Fundamental value “No one is vetting Syrian refugees for signs of antisemitism” (Comment & Features, February 5) correctly quotes me as saying: “Refugees coming to the US are subject to more vetting and screening than any other non-citizen arriving in America, subject to multiple layers of screening and review.” It notes that no one, however, is screening these refugees for antisemitism, and that Syrian textbooks are rife with antisemitic invective against Jews.
Abbas’s untranslated book - Opinion - Jerusalem Post

Americans say Putin poses ‘clear and present danger’
Americans have enough economic challenges at home and geopolitical challenges in the Middle East. They don’t want new troubles with Russia. They will, therefore, likely give President Donald Trump some initial latitude in his attempts to build a healthier working relationship with Moscow, and hope Saturday’s phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is the start of something positive. No Holds Barred: Beinart savages Kushner on refugees but gives Obama a pass
Peter Beinart, who will be visiting our Manhattan townhouse this coming Tuesday for a discussion and debate with me and Bret Stephens of The Wall Street Journal, has many people he doesn’t like. In a debate against me in Tel Aviv last year he compared Sheldon Adelson, the world’s foremost Jewish philanthropist, to the Iranian government terrorist mullahs.
Union fight - Opinion - Jerusalem Post
Competition brings out the best in people and in organizations. That’s why Zionist Union MK Shelly Yacimovich’s decision to challenge Avi Nissenkoren for the leadership of the Histadrut labor federation is a positive development. It is still too early to say anything intelligent about Yacimovich’s vision for the Histadrut.
Ultra ‘liberal’ self-righteousness, or how Jews invoke antisemitism
In the aftermath of the US elections, prominent Jews have become increasingly vociferous in the protest against the president.
Our World: The evolving threat of jihad in the West
One of the most important stories related to the September 11 attacks was the one that was deliberately left largely untold. That story is the response of some Muslims in America to the massacre of nearly 3,000 people by Islamic supremacists in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
The Domestic Violence Issue No One Is Talking About
It was British Prime Minister Theresa May who astutely said : “You can’t solve a problem as complex as inequality in one legal clause. This remark comes to mind when we, as lawmakers, deal with combatting the complexities of domestic violence. We all know that abuse does not always take the same form. Domestic violence often finds expression in means beyond physical assault that are no less injurious. We commonly hear of mental and emotional abuse, for example.
United against terrorism

Ensuring ‘Never Again’
‘Because I remember, I despair. Because I remember, I have the duty to reject despair,” the Holocaust survivor and Noble Prize laureate Elie Wiesel said. This profound quote comes to mind as we mark Holocaust Remembrance Day amid a new burst of anti-Semitism among mainstream political leaders in Europe which has unabashedly come out in the open seven decades after the end of World War II.
Choosing the path of gender equality and equal participation
‘There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women,” former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan once said. As we mark International Women’s Day, Israel is proud to be a champion for the empowerment of women and gender equality. Since its founding, Israel has been committed to a vision of a society of equal opportunity. Our Declaration of Independence guarantees equal rights for all citizens – regardless of gender, ethnicity or religion.
A historic budget for a more equal society
'Equality is the soul of liberty; there is, in fact, no liberty without it,” said Scottish-born writer and social reformer Frances Wright. This quote came to mind as the cabinet approved a landmark billion-dollar budget for Arab citizens and other minority populations in order to reduce social gaps and improve the living conditions of this sector.
Remembering the other refugees
‘The palest ink lasts longer than the most retentive memory,” as a Chinese proverb goes. This thought comes to mind while recalling the 850,000 Jewish refugees who were forced out of the Arab world and Iran with the founding of the State of Israel. My mother is from Libya and my father is from Yemen. I think of them and of so many others like them whose story has long been overshadowed or left untold.
Zero tolerance for violence in Jerusalem
‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” we read in the Psalms. But some people, it is clear, are not reading their Bible. The renewed Arab violence which desecrated the Holy City over the Rosh Hashana holiday must be nipped in the bud. The violence over the Jewish New Year was a deadly reminder that stones can kill, when 64-yearold Jerusalem resident Alexander Levlovitch lost control of his car and plunged to his death after his vehicle was pelted with stones.
Peace in our time
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last,” Winston Churchill once said. This wise adage comes to mind listening to the seemingly endless spin and the rose-tinted prognosis Western leaders are putting forward about the Iranian nuclear deal. For those who cared to listen, Iran’s supreme leader wasn’t hiding his cards in his first public remarks about the accord this weekend.
Our moral obligation
In the Book of Psalms we read: "Do not cast me off in the time of my old age. Do not leave me when my strength is gone." This beautiful and humbling request -- which we, young and old, make of God -- should serve us all as our guiding moral compass as we deal with aging Holocaust survivors. It is our duty. It is our moral obligation. It is holy work.
History is repeating itself
Last week, the world powers reached a framework agreement with Iran regarding the future development of Iran’s nuclear program. It seems symbolic that the framework agreement was signed the day before Passover – a holiday symbolizing freedom and the basic survival of the nation of Israel.Any reasonable person can understand the real danger to Israel and the entire Western world if Iran becomes, God forbid, a nuclear state.
