Each night, she leaves her patio door slightly ajar and raises the garage door just enough for her missing cat to slip inside if he finds his way home. "Every morning I wake up thinking that he's gonna be back. But not yet," Legate said. Young Axle recovered from a wheel-well 5 years ago. ORLANDO, Fla. - Summer can be a challenging time for blood collection. "People are on vacation, school is out, blood donation may not be top of mind for some people because they're in the summer mode," said Susan Forbes, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations with OneBlood. "But the need for blood does not take a holiday." Forbes said every two seconds, someone receives a blood transfusion, and one in three people will need blood at some point in their life.

ORLANDO, Fla. - As Orlando marks 10 years since the Pulse nightclub shooting, trauma surgeons with Orlando Health are reflecting on the blood donors and community support that helped save lives in the hours and days after the tragedy. For some survivors, the scale of the medical response is measured in the amount of blood they received while fighting to stay alive. "I was shot four times and I received over 40 units of blood," recalled Pulse survivor Jeff Xcentric one year after the shooting.
