Rout, reflect, reset: How the SNP lost Scotland
The Scottish National Party (SNP) had its wings clipped at the polls in this election. But its troubles are far from over. The SNP has ruled over Scotland for the past decade or more. But on 4 July, it lost half a million votes compared to the 2019 election. Combined with a collapse in the vote for the Tories, this allowed Starmer’s Labour to take the majority of Scotland’s seats in Westminster.
John Swinney: The SNP’s new old First Minister
The dust has begun to settle on the Scottish National Party’s whirlwind breakup with the Scottish Greens, and near-collapse of the Scottish government. The new-old SNP leader and seventh First Minister, John Swinney, is now in place at Bute House, his official residence. But any sign that this will lead to a new era of stability is an illusion.
Humza Yousaf resigns: Britain’s political crisis hits Holyrood
Just a few years ago, if you had asked the average SNP member who they would want to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader and First Minister, there’s a good chance they would have said ‘Humza Yousaf’. But all we see is the growing crisis within Scotland’s governing party, the SNP.

Unions protest Glasgow education cuts On 26 March, trade unions EIS, NASUWT, Unison, and GMB rallied at Glasgow City Chambers to express their anger at the council’s recent announcement of more budget cuts. The council’s plan for education cuts of £27 million, whilst schools are already under significant strain, was met with outrage by teachers and parents, who gathered to stage a demonstration and demand no more cuts.
Commons ceasefire circus: Kick them all out!
Confusion and chaos reigned in Westminster yesterday, as a pantomime played out inside the House of Commons, in farcical scenes reminiscent of Theresa May’s travails in search of a Brexit deal. Complaints of political point-scoring; procedural irregularities; a walkout of MPs: all this dominated the debate. Meanwhile, the actual question of Israel’s mass murder in Gaza fell by the wayside.
Green Brigade defies Celtic board: Fight for fan control!
Ever since the events of 7 October, the British establishment has condemned pro-Palestine supporters as ‘terrorist sympathisers’ and ‘antisemites’, while justifying Israel’s indiscriminate bombing campaign against the people of Gaza as ‘self-defence’.
