Gold King Mine Owner Files Lawsuit Against EPA

(CBS4)– Six years after the Gold King Mine in Silverton polluted rivers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, a lawsuit has been filed in federal court. The flood of wastewater from the mine has been called an environmental disaster. An Environmental Protection Agency-led contractor inadvertently triggered the spill while excavating at the mine entrance. Now, the EPA is being sued by the mine’s owner Todd Hennis.
Navajo Nation Reaches $10 Million Settlement in Lawsuit Over Gold King Mine Sprill

The spill took place in southwestern Colorado in 2015 — three million gallons of wastewater was released into rivers in three states. Under the settlement, Sunnyside Gold Corp. will pay the tribe $10 million. Last August, the state of Utah reached a settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency to fund clean water projects.

The companies had been in merger talks since late last year regarding a possible deal after Toronto-listed Endeavour made a stock-swap proposal to acquire Centamin. Crystallex International, Venezuela settle US$1.2B mine dispute
Crystallex International Corp. and Venezuela agreed to settle a US$1.2 billion dispute over the 2011 nationalization of a gold deposit in the South American nation. Ontario Superior Court Justice Glenn Hainey in Toronto approved the settlement on Friday after it was announced two days earlier through filings in Canada. Parts of the agreement remain sealed, including the amount to be paid.
Crystallex inches forward in legal dispute with Venezuela over Las Cristinas project
CARACAS, VENEZUELA -- Canadian mining company Crystallex has won a court order that advances its efforts to collect on a US$1.4-billion award linked to a dispute with Venezuela over the 2008 expropriation of the Las Cristinas gold project. Crystallex in 2016 won an award of US$1.2 billion plus interest from a World Bank Tribunal. In March, it won a ruling by a U.S. District of Columbia court upholding that award, a crucial step in being able to seize Venezuelan assets in the United States.
Goldcorp buys Exeter, teams with Barrick on Chile mining projects
Barrick Gold Corp (ABX.TO) and Goldcorp Inc (G.TO), the world's No. 1 and No. 3 gold miners by value, have agreed to team up to potentially develop gold projects in northern Chile, Goldcorp said on Tuesday, as the industry starts to put money into growth again. In a move aimed at reducing development costs and risks, Goldcorp and Barrick will form a 50-50 joint venture to study building gold mines in Chile's Maricunga belt, Goldcorp said.
