What was your first job as a journalist?
Featuring a publication for the State of Alabama called "Alabama Traveler." Did most of stories. Prepared the Files... Printed and it ended.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
YES... Well before computers. I might still have one in the shop if you need to borrow one for a prop.
How is social media changing news?
Unfortunately people aren't reading magazines as much anymore. The rely on Social for News... and you don't know what is true or not.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Don't really have one.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Digging in to tell the story. Other people can't be on-site, so it is our job to bring the story to them with the pictures to support.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Just completing...
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Content... our role in completion... mission of the story... timeframe to complete, and probably the end user of the story.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Word... Excel... Photoshop... Illustrator... and a good old pencil and paper when it comes to comics. Just the good old fashion way.
What's your favorite social network?
X - just getting going. Been Facebook for a long time. Been focused on just doing stories and let the Mags... promote. Now that is changing.
Who do you wish followed you?
Most any celebrity! Golfer... Movie Star... with the comics... I have people is fun "Golf" situations and it is surprising to them.
Why did you become a journalist?
To tell stories. Adding our own photography to the mix, allows us to tell a story based on what you are seeing, instead story... then photos.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Not so much writing content... I was more in charge of getting photos prepared to fill the pages. I think we used Tin-Types during that time
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Probably the U.S. Hickory Open story. Hickory Golf is becoming popular to golfers and to be the Lead Photographer and main storyteller.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write it and submit it. Many online publications are looking for good quality content. Don't expect to get rich... it's not about that.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Now were are talking Baseball? Okay sense of humor is everything to us. Anytime there is a need... we can be there to help.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Fly to Anguilla "Aurora" for the opening of a resort. Owners, Pro Golf Celebs were there... and they all got comics that I knew were coming.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I don't work at all for that publication anymore. To much stuff with promises that really never came true.
What's your favorite drink?
Water... that's pretty boring... but given the choice, Adult over the the obvious... We are going to take water. Whole lot safer that way.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
At the Golf Course, Traveling, and Finding "New Adventure..." or just sitting at the drawing board creating Comics! The Comics is relaxing.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Golf Digest... Golf Magazine... and Local publications where we are doing job. Local flavor goes a long way in selling the story mission.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we cost a lot of money. Done a lot of jobs for free... just because that offer was right... and the event was well worth the effort.
